► Hades 1.0 Full Release Story Synopsis

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.

As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.

  1. I prefer Dark Regeneration. The 3 HP per chamber doesn't really make a difference, usually, but a boss room you already did is worth like 120 darkness, if you have the weapon with the Darkness bonus. Maxed Dark Regeneration will return a big chunk of health to you when you win.

  2. Demeter, Wringers and the new miniboss Sneak only appear once you reach the surface. Also the beam cast doesn't do any initial damage, it just compares the damage to what you have at the moment which was your basic 50 damage cast.

  3. Wow, the combo of Artemis's improved Dash Strike and the hammer double dash strike really melted this run. One tip: doom doesn't stack, so it's usually better to put it on slower attacks like the bow primary or the shield special; you certainly could have done much better than doom on your primary attack this run. Zeus's lightning is the opposite, it does fixed damage on every hit so it's better to put it on faster weapons.

Another tip: Not selling a boon you want to replace isn't strictly bad. When you're offered a replacement boon, it's always at a higher rarity than the boon it's replacing, so keeping the crystal cast would have guaranteed that whatever cast you found would have been at least rare. Maybe worth more than 40 coins? Worth thinking about, at least.

  4. You really have to watch the poison! It's what hurt you so much during the rodent fight also. And, you say you weren't getting Chill, but remember you had a revenge boon for chill that gave the full 10 stacks, and it was being auto-activated by the duo boon from the end, so you were actually getting a lot of chill! Also, I think what happened with the Skelly boon is that you used it, but then it upgraded while you still had it on which re-filled the effect. Lots of good boons this time despite the health issues. Good luck next time!

  5. Lesson for today: don't anger snow grandma

But yeah, don't worry about upgrading! The game wants you to upgrade; and once you're done upgrading, it has more upgrades, to both you and the game difficulty. Upgrades within upgrades await you!

  6. You had a pretty good build by the end but at times the game definitely gives you a bad series of no boon or below average ones, you still did great though.
ps: you got two activation of the lucky tooth near the end, as it leveled up in the same room as it was used and reseted.

  7. Food for thought: When Asterius is summoning his God-aid he is:
    1. Not attacking
    2. Not defending
    3. Standing still

Just imagine if you had had powered-up laser-casts under those circumstances…

  8. You missed a fishing point in the shop in Elysium, honestly surprised Zag didn't call it out. They show up as beams of light in the water/lava/blood/etc, they also make a loud ding noise when you enter the room (and maybe when you defeat the enemies, not 100% on it). It's generally worth it to give rooms a once over for fishing spots, urns, etc. Also you're doing pretty great imo.

  9. Nice run, you'll got him the next time! (or the ones after 😉
New to your channel, I really enjoy your personnality and humor! ^^
I don't comment often on Youtube, but I really liked your content and hope it will be useful to you or anyone reading it (>^.^)>

I will give you few generics advices that helped me a lot to vanquish Father Hades: (and examples based on this run)
    – Don't go into savagery mode, especially against armored foes! Some weapon's moves have a native knockback or interrupting effect which stun-lock foes (like the Twin Fists' Attack combo), but it doesn't work until the armor is down, so you're exposing yourself to retaliation. Plus, dangerous enemies tend to have attack patterns and pauses you can use to strike them. It's especially true for Bosses (Asterius is a great training partner when encountered as a miniboss in Elysium: His basic combo is rythm-based (with a little delay before the third strike) and he can be melee-perfected with some training)
    – Target prioritization: Don't focus slow, melee enemies when there are Crystals, Bombers and Witchs, except if you like bullet hell. That's all for this one… ^^"
    – Weapons' Attack/Special can destroy projectiles. It seems like nothing, but AoE moves can clear the screen pretty easy with some timing 😉
    – Discovering a weapon by focusing on one move is good to expriment, but in fact, their moveset is designed to be complementary. An example, Stygius: Dash-Strike is used to close up and dealilng damage while dancing around your victim, Attack for quick light attacks and Special to deal damage is an area and knock away foes in case there are too much of them near you. Every Arm has native synergy between its moves, incentivizing you to use the complete package.
    – Don't hesitate to stop a minute to reread your Boons and effects and understand the build you're going on, how your Boons interact with each others and what you miss to increase your lethality/survivability. it's normal to forget some effects, especially when you start to have more than 10 of them (and I'm not recording and entertaining people while playing 😉 so it can help you remember a thing you could have forgotten at the moment.
    – Don't assume anything. It's a common mistake and you can miss incredible Boons or synergies by doing so. Read a Boon and the infobubble carefully, the game explain (almost) anything greatly. In this run, the Demeter's Revenge Boon is a good example: The Boon says you completely Chill enemies after taking damage. The infobubble for Chill says it can stack a max of 10 times. In this case, it means it applies 10 stacks directly (the base is 1 stack per attack normally). Another one on which you seemed to have issue, the Duo's Lightning Rod: the Boon says the collectable Bloodstones generates lightning on nearby foes. During the run, you seemed to totally ignore the "collectable" part of the Boon. In this case, when a Bloodstone is on the field and waiting to be collected by Zagreus, it passively strikes lightnings on the enemies. Your luck in this run is you got a pretty great synergy, but didn't exploited it at its fullest.

    That's all for today! ^^"
I don't intend to be mean or hurt you, I really hope those advices from a fellow Hades player can help! (I feel a little embarrassed after writing this much ^^" )
One last thing (being more my thoughts than an advice) : You're doing great with the Cast, changing your mind on it with time and experimentations (and honestly, it's become viable when you unlock the Mirror's skills bind to it). You should try the green alternative for the Cast: You only have one for start, but it regenerates passively over 5 seconds (if you don't invest Darkness in it, 3 seconds if maxed out) so you don't have to run after it! It can allow you more consistency for Cast use, if you want to try exploiting it more! (b^.^)b

Hope it was too much of an eyesore to read (being French, I probably did a lot of mistakes and I wrote a lot… >_> )
I'm pretty excited to see you defeat Hades and discovering what lies beyond!
    Cheers! (>^.^)>

  10. I've just started watching from ep 1 and noticed you are using kbm. I would definitely strongly recommend giving a controller a try with this game. Movement, dashing and controls in general feel much better on it. Either way, looking forward to watching all eps.

  11. I find it's best to think of the 'special' as more of an alternative/secondary attack. Something to be used almost as frequently as your primary attack. This is a lot easier to do on a controller which is one of the reasons Supergiant strongly recommends using one for this game; you lose some aiming precision but gain a lot of control in all other areas.

Excellent playthrough as always! 😀 Really appreciate your commentary and attention to detail/lore.

Rebind special to shift. It makes using it lot easier.
Dont feel bad about upgrades. You ll need them especially last few upgrades.I have 600+ hours in this game in last six months. And now i can just turn off mirror and clear the game.I didnt when i started. You ll never even realize you r getting better.
And styx enemies…observe them how they attack. You can avoid all poison damage easily.

  14. WELONZ WHY DON'T YOU FISHING
okay, seriously though, you had A LOT of fishing spots that you didn't use despite having the fishing rod and it kinda triggers me because I'm in the late game and one of the quests is to fish as much as possible -_-.
Just keep in mind that when you hear the bell ringing (like at 56:10) when you enter a room or kill all the enemies in it there is a fishing point there somewhere.

  15. dont sell your abilities unless you desperately need the money for health or death defiance. The cast is worth $150 and all you got for it was $50. If you hold on to it, then when you find a cast that you like, it will match or be higher level than the one that you currently have equipped. In that case, the old ability is effectively turned into a POM, which is worth $100.

  16. I don't think anyone mentioned this; the Extra Death Defiance at 1:30:10 was you had made it through enough encounters to level up Skellys Tooth. That reset it, giving you another use of it. I don't know if that's actually intended, however…

  17. Nobody seems to have mentioned it, but the lightning rod duo boon requires the bloodstones to be on the ground, waiting to be picked up. It actually does a huge amount of damage, but you have to leave the bloodstones alone to use it.

  18. Zag’s fan is the cutest ish I’ve ever seen. I wonder if you keep beating Theseus over and over, eventually the stadium will turn red. And if it does, will an even stronger hero than Theseu turn up to turn the tide back to the heroes’ favour. The shades of Elysium, who only enter from being great warriors, can’t start worshipping a presumed demon after all.

  19. it would be nice if lucky tooth got used first but it would be way too powerful in that case. You could soak up a death before the temple of Styx for free, basically, and then switch it out for a damage bonus or health bonus before fighting Hades. Too OP.

  20. 1:09:51 Don't just assume what things do, read them. The last Duo said exactly what it would do to change your cast, and so does this one. It does not say anything about changing the cast effect, so it won't. It says what it will do when bloodstones are sitting around after popping out of an enemy but before you pick them up, "collectible." Everything in Hades does exactly what it says it will. And I do mean EXACTLY, things are not implied.

  21. Whenever you say "I'm not using my special at all" I just hear "I'm not using a basic part of my abilities at all." Hurts so much how you're holding yourself back from kicking ass more. T_T

  22. Man you had one of the really strong duo boons, it actually hits everyone with damage as long as the bloodstone stays on ground unpicked. You you could have just dropped it on ground and run around and Hades would have died.

  23. Keep on at it Wellonz! 😉 Zagreus is Best Boy! ☺️ Maybe Cerberus! 😀

Hope that you’ve been all keeping well & good, especially this last week. However you voted, proper democracy needs to happen (we do postal votes in my country – moreso when there’s a mass pandemic – (same here too in the UK!) Keep safe everyone!

Have been buying up some art books during lockdown – Atlus / Persona / Cyberpunk 2077.
    – postal votes count for all parties. (They need to make an art book but please also look at Pyre & Transistor at least – such great artwork!)

I’m gay so don’t wanna seem like some weirdo @Wellonz. Just love your content & your voice over seems like ASMR to me. We have “Guy Fawke’s Day” here but my dog is so scared and need to distract him. We played some classical in the background whilst playing Hades. Nowhere as good as Hades but check out “Blood of Zeus” on Netflix…

    Keep safe Wellonz & fans.

    Love from the UK! X
