@karotus9662 as you wished: 6/? Nico di Angelo
Where do i even begin? Nico was, same as bianca, born shortly before the time of WW2 which means that he must have experienced some really rough times and as he said in (i think it was) house of hades (hoo) they even had to flee from italy (before nicos birth) but it wasn't a lot easier in America. And when he was only around 9 to 10 years old Zeus wanted to kill him and his sister which led to the death of his mother. And then he was put into the Lotus Hotel and casino for 60 to 70 years. After that Nico and his sister were enrolled in a school but that school was filled by monsters who just wanted to get to them. He got saved just in time by Percy, the other demigods and the huntresses. And when they finally found a safe place at camp half blood his sister decided to leave him (absolutely no hate against Bianca, as i had written for her explanation: she was a kid herself. And it may have been sad but nico had a safe place to live and you can't expect that a twelve y/o dedicates her entire life to raising a child). When his sister was on the quest, nico must have felt horrible because he didn't know where his sister was or if she was ok, especially since the prophecy said that someone won't survive. But Percy, the hero Nico already admired from the start, would keep her safe, he promised. (Also no hate for Percy. He was a child as well and he did everything he could. And again also no hate against Bianca. She was just a child and she was new to all the demigod things.) I can't imagine how relieved Nico probably felt when Percy and the others came back and how much he wanted to see his sister then he found out from Percy that his sister had died. Nico's world probably completely collapsed at that moment. his family, the person he could rely on most, was gone. forever. And he went away. I think he just couldn't live there anymore, i think he couldn't stay he felt like he had lost his place there and he didn't want to see how all the others and Percy would just get over his sister, he was too angry and too sad (I can't really explain it but I think he just wasn't able (mentally) to stay there). Then he went into the labyrinth, alone, that must have been incredibly scary for him. Can you imagine little nico being alone in a dark maze with monsters around every corner, traps and all that stuff, while he only just found out that monsters and all those mythical creatures exist? He continuously went through more and more trauma, his whole life. Then there was the first titan war, Nico fought and fought. And he could have just stayed out of it, the other campers didn't even like him and just thought he was "scary" and even after he helped to win the war people still were distant toward him and didn't like him. (I think it was him who led percy to the styx and helped him like that as well (i mean, without that it could have gone extremely wrong) but i think, even tho nico wanted to help percy but percy didn't trust him and even put his sword against nicos throat) So he went away again. This time to the underworld. And even tho he is a child of hades i can't imagine it being very nice down there, with all the dead people and all the dangers. He then found Hazel (for anyone who doesn't know it yet: she is his sister too. And from here on are a lot of spoilers for hoo) and brought her to the roman camp. But even there he wasn't totally welcome. And then percy came. Just imagine how he must have felt after he fled from everything and everywhere he knew just for percy, the boy he admired most, came out of nowhere and his past was back again. Then, he goes to find the doors to the underworld (I don't really remember the correct name, sorry). For that he was IN TARTARUS. Alone. And we saw what it was like for Percy and Annabeth, and i absolutely don't want to downplay what they went through, but Nico went through all of that alone, when he was only 14 to 15 y/o! After that horrible experience he was held hostage by two giants, with no food and no water, he was on the verge of dying. And he was completely alone, can you imagine being in such a situation? And while he was dying in that vase, the others on the Argo 2 were arguing whether he was worth being saved or not. I know they had to be careful because it was a trap and they had to be on time and all, but it was basically the same with Piper's dad and they just went and saved him. And i really don't know if Nico would be alive if Hazel didn't insist on saving him. After he was saved and got on the argo 2, things didn't get much better. Yea he got hazel and wasn't held hostage anymore but he was still alone and an outsider. Others avoided him, thought he was creepy and weird and all in all didn't like him and it's not like they made it a secret. he had nowhere to go. Then there was the quest with Jason during which he got forcefully outed by Cupid. Being outed without wanting to is really bad on its own, but imagine Nico being born and raised in a world where people were killed for being gay, and where it was illegal for a man to love another man. And Nico may know that times have changed but he still must have been so scared of what the others (in this case Jason) would think of him. And i can imagine how he must have been trying to like "stop" being gay and to avoid those feelings because he was scared or maybe he had internalised homophobia and hated himself… Then he almost kills himself again by shadow traveling. Multiple times. Then there is another war. Then later, in toa, his best friend Jason dies. The first one to really know he is gay and the first one to comfort him after what cupid did, just gone. And another part of his family is gone. Later (in tsats) he goes to tartarus, again. Yes, this time with Will but that doesn't make anything better.
Nico fought his whole life and went through trauma after trauma. And as far as i know, he blames himself for almost all of it. He does hold grudges on other and blame them, but i think he blames himself for what happened and for blaming others, which (in my opinion) makes it even worse and sadder. And he doesn't really talk to others about it. He just keeps it to himself, so not only did he go through all of that sh¡t but he was alone with it all the time. He is still so young (i know he is older when you look at his birth date but yk what i mean) and has so much before him. Luckily he got Will by his side.
So that was Nico… It's a lot. And sorry for being so cut off near the end. Firstly, i haven't read all of toa yet and secondly, it already was so much… Anyway i hope you like it and sorry for not posting for such a long time.
It’s so frickin sad that Nico gets blamed for a lot. Imagine how he felt during the Cupid incident. Imagine how he felt after he got the news Bianca died. (We know how he feels in the later books, as he tried to pin his crush on Annabeth instead of Percy in the House of Hades and in the Blood of Olympus it said that he was terrified of himself for opening that crack in the earth.)
