Are the jsb hades the best hunting pellet available? or are the exact heavies still the best?
Ive finally found a decent batch of the hades. Previous tests have been relatively poor however this recent batch shows good accuracy at short to medium range and as soon as the wind dies off i will push these out to the extreme ranges.
i test them into the putty lined silent pellet trap to check the penetration and wether they expand on impact
i use the Air Arms xti50 and the airmaks katran in both multi and single shot configuration
the results are fairly impressive as ive always seen the hades as a bit of a gimmick compared the exact heavies
i also measure the head sizes to make some comparison to other known good batches.

The hades work well in my springer very accurate in that sub 12 in 22
Morning 👍
My R10th loves the heavies, hates the hades. But in .22 they handle high fps really well. Completely as you say. 🤷♂️
Great content 👌
Another great video, very informative
i have the same problems in my Gamo Coyote(,22) both with the JSB Hades and the Jumbo exact(15,89gr ,22 caliber) at 25 metres 9 pellets true on target and the last one decides not to play nice and skews off in one or the other direction, i have also had cases where the pellet leaves the barrel true and then tumbles as it hits the target
Oddly my AA S410 TDR groups Hades better than the heavies
Good video. I feel the quality control at JSB isn't what it used to be. The variation between batches is simply too much. I recently bought a sleeve of 4.52 which literally fell out of my HW 77 barrel. They measured on average 4.47 in my pellet gauge. I have switched over to H&N for HFT purposes
Great video again 😉👍
Great video, confirms my findings. I am a big fan of Hades and Heavies in .177 but I only use the Hades out to 20m, they are get a bit sketchy beyond that. I don’t think the Hades heads distort much at sub 12, I think they probably produce a slightly bigger shockwave ahead of them in soft material. Hades always load smoothly as you say due to the smaller head size.
Ive never had any rifle that likes hades , even if they love the heavies hades are all over the place..also can you cover that blockwork behind you it plays havoc with my ocd😁
I have had some frustrating results with the .177, but the .22 are consistently super accurate (@sub12) Bc measured 0.024 and have more stopping power.
With the .177, maybe 5-8 through same hole then random flier. CZ200 (early) it never shot heavies well one day I will try tweaking the power curve up to 150-160bar see if that helps.
They had the highest BC of any .177 I have tested 0.031 and make the most power out of the barrel just wish I could get rid of the fliers, idea of the higher pressure is to get them to obturate more to maybe fit the barrel better. Might be the manufacturing just doesn't quite work this small.
There's a lot of miss interpretation of the function of the head as it's not about pure "expansion", more about creating shock and having a breaking effect.
If your going to pick a medium to test into try and find something soft enough but there's penetration difference and then measure those differences. Also good is if you have it free swinging on a string that way you can more visually see energy transfer vs over penetration.
The head should keep them true in the target but will stop the pellet much faster for more energy dump. The guys @taofledermaus have tested some similar shaped prjectiles even non expanding hard projectiles in this shape create more damage than a dome will.
hello sir , in 25 30 and 35 cal those hades are very good , in my guns that is . 22 and 177 i did not tryed it cheers
Great vid!
My understanding is your vid confirms most shooters findings of .177 hades not being great past 20/25yds
Bizarrely it seems to be the case that .22 hades perform much better at sub12 than the .177
My krait .177 barrel didn’t hades but loved heavy’s however my .22 krait barrel loves hades even out at distance.
Do you have any .22 barrels/rifles? It would be good to see if you could take a look at the .22 hades
Anyway, cheers for the videos.
I shoot a RATWorks tuned HW100 and a HW97, both .177. and the Hades are the single worst pellets I've tried in either. Looked like I'd opened up on my pellet trap with a 12-gauge. I was actively worried I was going to shoot myself in the back of the head with one. I found this odd because they'll both put JSB Heavies through the same hole at 30m all day long and group fairly well with almost anything else I've tired in them. Just hated the Hades, they were as bad as any lead-free.
Awesome stuff 👍
Try some H&N 13 grain slugs. They shoot excellent out of my cheap Chinese 'tuned' Snowpeak. With some 7-8mm 5 shot groups at 25 yds and very rarely more than 12-13mm and with only very rare fliers!
Brilliant ratting pellet won't use them past 30 yards though
Interesting testing again, they did seem pretty inconsistent in the Katran. Never tried Hades in any of my rifles and you haven't convinced me that they are a high priority to get hold of 😃😃
