Strabo in 63 BC mentioned this cave: “This space is full of a vapor so misty and dense that one can scarcely see the ground. Any animal that passes inside meets instant death.”
Plutonium (Gate to Hell) in Hierapolis (Pamukkale)
Known as Pluto’s Gate. Ploutonion in Greek, Plutonium in Latin. The cave was celebrated as the portal to the underworld in Greco-Roman mythology and tradition. Pluto’s Gate, is the legendary portal to the underworld in Greco-Roman mythology and tradition.
And this is believed to be the gate to Hades. Would not want to go down in there actually because of the carbon dioxide that’s probably still emanating from the ground. But supposedly this is where they brought in the sacrificial animals. They went in, the priest went in with the animals. the animals would die very quickly. And the priest would come out very quickly or they would die. And I’ve read that the priest because they were taller than some of the animals, most of the animals even the cows, the bison, whatever. I don’t think it was bison actually the bulls. They survived but they had to get out quickly. And you can see bubbling in here. This is probably underground carbon dioxide coming out. Would not want to go down in there. Yeah, without a respirator.
