56. A Train Journey through Hades.

Join us as we negotiate our way through the extensive layers of train storage know as Hades. To help guide through, here’s a link to view or download the track plan in PDF form.

We filmed it using a Hawkeye Firefly Q6 4K HD FPV Aerial Camcorder held on with Blutak on a 1-plank wagon.

  1. Finally! Now it starts to make sense. Hades can supply and receive all the trains from each city on the layout. Outstanding work team McKinley, cant wait to see some of the scenic sections operating now.

  2. "I had NO IDEA"…. I have been subscribed to your channel for a number of months now, but had no idea how mammoth McKinley actually is. Oh my goodness… what an accomplishment. [And I even got to see Charlie πŸ™‚ ]

  3. YOU TWO LOOK LIKE STATLER AND WALDORF SAT THERE. AFTER ALL THAT ALL WE SAW WAS NOTHING. NOTHING OF THE MAIN LAYOUT TOPSIDE. JUST HADES AND SIDINGS… ANYONE BORED AFTER 5 MINS

  4. For the from Halifax "on going track";
there seems to be space under Halifax above of level C
-> two separate lifts (could be called "Persephone") down,
over headshunts into sidings at level D
or rather down to level C directly into Hades,
    maybe? πŸ€”

  5. Mind blowing! The work you and your team have put in , the vast amount hardly ever seen! The volume of track, wiring and switches is incredible! All this and not a single track side figure to be seen!
    Brilliant well done Sirs!

PS .Nice to see Charlie Chadders helping out on the day.

  6. Loved seeing Hades in its entirety. Could watch this all day! I do hope there will be more like this in the future. The explanations behind McKinley are great but the only way to really understand the size of this project is seeing it in action. Looking forward to seeing more! Keep up the good work and take care!

  7. That was absolutely amazing 🀩 It’s a credit to all the time team who have spent hours building what must be the most complicated British outline model railway πŸ‘πŸ» The wiring is amazing and how tidy it is to πŸ˜„ What’s next some buildings and scenery πŸ€”

  8. As per norm, yet more insight into this wonderful project. Think I might drop my local vicar a note and let him know I have found a new resting place…..and me being the Grandson of a Welsh Minister too πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  9. Wow, awesome, incredible! What a huge achievement already.
    1. is there an estimated finishing the track date?
    2. a completion date for landscaping it all?
    3. a populating the track date?
    4. A completion date for the time-machine concept?
I realise these are all a bit arbitrary, and of course no layout is ever truly complete, but…

A cheeky 5. have you completely rewritten the "Are You Being Served" theme tune?

  10. Hey there's Charlie from Chadwick, enjoy his videos. This project is obviously on a large scale and a mammoth undertaking, I was surprised to see an unused wall socket in the shot. But I can't say I enjoyed the ride. I much prefer quality over quantity. I guess you have to be into helix and protruding tortoise motors – not my bag. Good work tho, great to see enthusiastic enthusiasts!

  11. Wow… I knew McKinley was a large layout build, but not until watching this journey twice that I have taken it all in. All the wiring, point motors, wood, metal, plastic, links, etc with the points and track (have fun ballasting that lot, LOL) is astonishing. Eight plus miles which would only get me from Belfast to Troopers Lane over here. An amazing drive around the whole lot and next time how about an in-Cab Driver's Eye View Photoshopped Graphic Overlay from a Class 37 or 68 or Blue Pullman. Mr Bishop, please return to Chadwick as the 21:12 via the kitchen to wash the dishes before Mrs Bishop gets home needs to be done, LOL. Once again thank you guys for the fascinating train journey around McKinley.

  12. I lost count of how many points we went over… let alone all the other pointwork that's visible in passing – how do you make sure they're all set correctly??? I'm just working ("working") on a computer system which will work by route; so as a train approaches a set of points/signals, the computer knows where the train is due to go & will set the points ahead of it accordingly… v. early days yet, though. Probably re-inventing the wheel TBH, but that's how I like it πŸ˜€

  13. Thanks for the tour! Crazy but amazing project … nice and reliable though! One good fun project for someone … to use a mini disc to cut/score the top of the rail head into β€˜60ft’s’ to create the clickety-clack sound effects of each joint! 🀣😜 Joking aside … very impressive cable management. I used the Lego Technic blocks with the holes in to glue to the underside of the baseboards to allow the wiring to be threaded through … keep up the good work! The trackside signs and schematic really helped … very impressive! πŸ‘

  14. Great ride. Remarkably smooth (with the possible exception of the junction you don't like at the back of Sheffield). I'm surprised to see a set of sidings where you expect manual intervention to get the engine to the right end of the train. With the level of automation that you are building that surprises me. Great filming and editing by Charlie of course.
