Hades is a roguelike action role-playing video game developed and published by Supergiant Games. It was released for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2020, which followed an early access release from December 2018.

Players control Zagreus, the son of Hades, as he attempts to escape from Underworld to reach Mount Olympus, at times aided by gifts bestowed on him from the other Olympians. Each run challenges the player through a random series of rooms populated with enemies and rewards. The game has a hack and slash combat system; the player uses a combination of their main weapon attack, dash power, and magic ability to defeat them while avoiding damage to progress as far as possible. While Zagreus will often die, the player can use gained treasure to improve certain attributes or unlock new weapons and abilities to improve chances of escaping on subsequent runs.

  1. So here's where I'm going to explain how duo boons work. You thought that you had seen Legendary before, but it was in fact a Duo boon, which is green. They're both pretty rare though.

The duo boons require that you have boons from BOTH gods before they'll start appearing in your choices. You wanted 'Hunting Blades', which is the homing blade rift. You never had any opportunity to get it during this run, even though you kept going to Ares. That boon is a duo between Ares AND ARTEMIS. As you probably expect, the requirement from Ares is the blade rift. The requirement from Artemis is that you've put something from her on ONE of your main slots (Attack, Special, Dash, or Call). Once you have Artemis on one of them, AND have the blade rift, you have a chance of getting the duo boon when you take either an Ares boon or an Artemis boon.

As you may expect, this is where trinkets come into play! Your seed never gave you any Artemis boons, but you could force them to start spawning by equipping the Artemis trinket between areas.

You can check the duo requirements by going into the god's journal page with LB, then pressing Select while you're on them. Just navigate to the thing you want and check it out! Pro tip, I believe if you're standing next to their boon orb and open the journal, it opens right to their page. Ares actually has another duo that modifies his blade rift, but you don't currently have access to that god's boons.

You were wondering why you couldn't deflect the small witch shots, and it's because they were technically 'yours'. The witches shoot big orbs that shatter into smaller shots. If you reflect the big orb, it still shatters, but the small shots won't harm you, since they were from 'your' projectile. Reflecting the big orbs quickly is actually the easiest way to deal with the witches, since they nearly always die from the big orb hitting them, then ALL the small orbs hit them at the same time.

Mini chariots are ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARES. I've found that the realization that you can dash through terrain like walls helps a TON with them. I think they start their explosion as they get close-ish, and if you just jump to the other side of a wall, they need to path around, and just explode on the way. This is very helpful with pretty much any melee enemy. Just stay near a wall that they can't walk through, and jump to the other side when they get close. They now need to walk all the way around. (PRO TIP: Asterius' charge is super weak to this, and it makes it much easier to force him to charge into the pillars. Just stand in front of a pillar. Once he gets close, dash behind the pillar, and he just runs right into it. Dashing into him makes it more likely for him to manage to turn around.)

I hadn't even noticed that Asterius starts with less health when you fight him first! Neat!

I'm pretty happy with Hades at the moment, since I just managed to clear 32 heat without much trouble! That'll make more sense to you guys later, once you unlock it.
