Wow even as a spider Arachne won't stop displaying such a huge ego.
This is actually a bit old. And of course she's gonna be biased. Esp if this is the Ovid take where Athena was a sore winner and cursed Arachne after she beat her in a weaving contest.
Arachne still holding a grudge against Athena for well basically turning her into a spider. Still she put herself in this predicament for boasting how she was better at weaving aaaaaand let’s not forget her masterpiece. Basically her tapestry detailed every shitty thing that Zeus and Poseidon had done which is a bad thing cuz Athena called it poor tastes since she lives with them and deal with their nonsense!
What's with the victim-blaming in these comments? Do people not realize how completely petty and stupid it is to ruin someone's life over a weaving contest?
In Ovid's version (the most popular and the one this Arachne was likely based on), Athena was enraged for two reasons: Arachne WAS a better weaver than her, and Arachne dared depict various ways the gods decieved or tricked or molested mortals in her art. So what did Athena do? Beat her over the head and shamed her until Arachne commited suicide.
Athena is not the good guy here. Arachne is fully justified with never forgiving her.
"They say the best revenge is a life well lived, but I still wouldn't mind strangling her with my silk. Hypothetically, I mean, ha ha ha…"
Oh! I never noticed it before but Mel's dress does change colors after choosing!
Athena: You pridefull fool, you dare challange a GOD to their own specialty.
Arachne: bet
