Hades is a roguelike action role-playing video game developed and published by Supergiant Games. It was released for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2020, which followed an early access release from December 2018.

Players control Zagreus, the son of Hades, as he attempts to escape from Underworld to reach Mount Olympus, at times aided by gifts bestowed on him from the other Olympians. Each run challenges the player through a random series of rooms populated with enemies and rewards. The game has a hack and slash combat system; the player uses a combination of their main weapon attack, dash power, and magic ability to defeat them while avoiding damage to progress as far as possible. While Zagreus will often die, the player can use gained treasure to improve certain attributes or unlock new weapons and abilities to improve chances of escaping on subsequent runs.

  1. So I had been visiting family over the last week, so wasn't keeping up. This'll be a comment for all the stuff from this run.

Yes Aphrodite's call is annoying because it doesn't do normal damage. Greater call is a good chunk though.

Max health hearts aren't a percentage of current health, they're a flat +25 max, and +25 heal to fill itself in.

Dionysus' strong drink also applies to the fountain in Styx, where Hades fight unlocks. Means that's a full health restore right before Hades. Note on this one, you may have actually beaten Hades if you had gone straight into his boss room after the fountain, since you would've had ~150 more health in that fight overall. Usually getting greedy about doing more rooms in Styx is a bad idea. I always go for Hades as soon as he opens up.

I am glad that you got to see the fight with TINY VERMIN.

I didn't realize that Athena's death defy replenishment actually had a unique sprite for itself, neat!

Information about Hades for the fight itself:

ABSOLUTELY deal with the ads he summons during phase 1. This is the mistake I kept making when I played initially. He only summons those ads twice ever, with thresholds of thirds of his health bar. Trying to fight while they stay alive always leads to taking tons of stray hits. Don't try to rush him down here.

Hades is a boss that you need to play defensively with overall, since the startup time of all his attacks is so quick. The BEST and most frequent punish is after his spin attack. You can usually get a few stray hits in after that, then dash away.

If you liked the musical shift for phase 2, and don't plan on doing 'extreme measures' Hades yourself, definitely look up a video of that. I don't want to say more, since it's a phenomenal experience if you can avoid spoilers.

I do want a minor little note I realized, since I watched this full run at once. If you had bought the 30 darkness in world 1 that you didn't want to 'waste the money on', you would have been over the threshold for getting your third death defy now. XD
