  1. It was inevitable that Hades appear in my GOTY list, as it has with basically anyone who played it. It hardly feels necessary to go over what makes this game so good and has led it to become so popular. it’s a roguelike that’s successfully solved the issue every other game in the genre faces, where you feel like you’ve wasted your time after an unsuccessful run. This is done with a seemingly endless supply of unlockables to gain using various currencies earned just by playing, as well as a story that’s tightly integrated with the roguelike structure and works around your losses. It’s got super tight gameplay that’s always incredibly satisfying to experience, and I can see why some people have gotten completely addicted to it. However, and I’m sure I’m in the minority when I say this, but I was disappointed to find that at the end of the day, Hades is still just a roguelike. This is still a game that fundamentally involves doing the same thing over and over, experiencing content generated by an algorithm instead of human hands. And the story, while leaps and bounds over all of its competition, still doesn’t have the resonance of Supergiant’s story-focused titles, like the masterfully written Pyre. Still, I can’t emphasize enough how much fun this game is to play and how much innovation Supergiant has brought to a genre that desperately needed it. Supergiant is one of my favorite indie developers and it’s honestly great to see them experience so much success this year – looking forward to what they cook up next!

  2. Your review is very fair ^^ You are completely right with everything about it.
I haven't actually heard the song in game yet, but holy shit, is that really the same voice actor or does someone else sing for Orpheus? He sounds so DIFFERENT.
