  2. we shoul definitly stop companies from using predatory monetization specially when most games are targetd to kids. some big comanies even hire psychologists to maximize their profyt systems. gambling shouldn't be easly accesible either i hope we soon start seeing laws against lootboxes

  3. They have 20 different currencies for sure to cause confusion, usually its referred to as "cost obfuscation" and its one of the many neat monetization tricks figured out by adding psychologists to the payroll.

  4. The problem with mtx in a game is that sure, you can pay for convenience. But now the company has a financial incentive to make the game inconvenient. Offer an item that gives instant teleportation? Well, they're incentivized to make moving around the world more troublesome. Just a cosmetic? Well, in the past they were free. And now dev time goes into cosmetic stuff instead of the gameplay/QC/etc.

All this is before you get into the straight gambling and Skinner box methods of these games. Gambling is addictive as hell, and giving kids an exposure to that is dangerous if there aren't controls. Hell, even stuff like pokemon cards have a gambling element to them. If you've ever gotten the high when you re-sort the pack and feel a textured FA card, you'll know what I mean. It's addictive, and very expensive.

I know companies need money, but SG is my personal gold standard. I've bought all their games. I'd buy dlc for them in a heartbeat. I hate the idea that buying a game isn't "enough" anymore. And the fact that f2p games often cost tens or hundreds of times more than a paid counterpart makes me sad.

You only have to look at examples like EA removing older, non-free versions of mobile games in exchange for freemium, garbage mtx-ridden stuff. PvZ in its original state was an amazing game. The garbage version available on the app store is not.

  5. A change I would make to MTX is eliminating the possibility of cost obfuscation. All purchases must be listed in the real life currency you're paying in and every store screen must show in plain 24pt text how much money you have spent within the shop to make any purchases previously. Gift cards can only add real currency to your account.

A part of the obfuscation isn't just for yourself as a player, but also to hide purchases from parents and guardians who don't realize the amount of money being spent. By eliminating the obfuscation it would become much more obvious how much money these games are designed to take in.
