► Hades 1.0 Full Release Story Synopsis

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.

As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.

  1. I'm probably going to upload new Hades episodes on some type of every-other-day basis (something like Mon-Wed-Fri??) – I'll let you know in the comments here when I have it ironed out! Thanks for all the tips so far & hope you're enjoying the vids!!

  2. Sisyphus was not exactly a great person in life. He was the first king of what would become Corinth and he would murder guests in his palace which angered Zeus as it was directly against the laws of hospitality (xenia) that were under Zeus' control. Zeus ordered Hades (or Thanatos) to chain Sisyphus in Tartarus as punishment but wily Sisyphus tricked Hades and chained the god in his place. As long as Hades was bound no-one could pass into the afterlife (essentially everyone was immortal) which was an issue as the Greek gods get their power from sacrifices made to them. Sisyphus then managed to convince Persephone that he wasn't supposed to be dead (he had his wife throw his body into the town square rather than being properly buried) and had her return him to life.
Zeus, who was more than a little annoyed by now, had Hermes drag Sisyphus back into Tartarus and assigned him his eternal task of rolling a boulder as punishment for his trickery.
Honestly, he got off lightly considering what happened to others that merely insulted the gods.

  3. Welonz, maybe you might want to consider using a controller for this game, unless you feel comfortable with kb + m ofc, but I personally found it a lot better and smoother to play with one

  4. Did THE BEST youtuber start a series on a game from THE BEST studio? Heck yeah!
I read the comments from the other vids and haven't finished watching this one but here's the most crucial tip for you:
Bind your Special to something on your mouse. Maybe even switch it to right click and bind Cast to middle mouse like I do. Combining your abilities together will make or break a run and letting go of any of the WASD keys used for dodging to press Q just feels and plays terribly.
The rest I am confident you can figure out on your own. Enjoy the game. <3 ^_^

  5. Welcome once more to Asphodel, where the floor is always lava. Fun to see you figuring out more game mechanics! I'm admittedly not much further ahead – bashing my head against the next area boss – so you might end up outpacing me by the end of the week, in which case I'd have to sit the episodes out until I can catch up, alas.

Nonetheless, more newbie tips – from a (shield-wielding) newbie, to a newbie!
    – you've sort of caught on to it, but not quite: the Bull Rush (shield's charged attack) will block all and any damage, so long as you're facing that damage. This includes all physical attacks and every type of projectile, including Hydra's arrows, witches' purple clumps, lasers, and those wide… force blades or whatever, no dodging needed.
    – related to the above, fully-charged Bull Rush will one-shot some foes, such as the flying skulls and the pink crystals; it can be worthwhile letting a bunch of the skulls slam into the shield, crowding up, and then releasing the rush for mass destruction
    – shield also provides knockback; slamming your foes into walls will deal them additional damage and stagger them, letting you whale on them with impunity

I've no doubt the Hydra will fall soon!

  6. Alright I'm gonna issue one more little thing – it may be obvious by now but just incase it isn't:

Talk to EVERYONE every opportunity you get. Even if they don't have an ! above them. The devs for this game have recorded literally thousands of lines of dialogue for each and every permutation of circumstances you can find yourself in during the course of events.

If you're using a certain weapon, if you last got killed by a certain boss, if you happen to be getting a boon from a shop, if you happen to have met a previous God – all of these things interact and trigger unique dialogue lines.

There are people that have been playing this game since the early access days and are still discovering new lines when they have some weird niche circumstance in a particular run that 0.001% of players will ever see, and it has been accounted for.

Seriously, try to reach for weird and wonderful combinations of stuff and see how the game responds. You will be anticipated.

  7. 30:54 I agree about Zagreus; I find it refreshing that, even tho he's a snarky pretty boy, he's softspoken, cordial and respectful to others. Despite his (dysfunctional) upbringing, he's not the usual gloryhog of a traditional Greek mythological hero, which makes us actually like him lmao

  8. While the tactics of sticking with just one weapon is nice for getting used to specific play style, please keep in mind that going with more variety will allow you to get more resources for upgrades/customisation/character bonding.
The way it works is that the reward for each boss not gonna drop eery time you kill them, but only first time for each weapon you kill them with (so, for example, if you pick a bow again and go kill Meg – again – then you will not get the Titan blood – reward for her boss – but just darkness. And while darkness is good for permanent upgrades, Titan blood becomes THE MOST important thing in the game later on)
Of course, there's a way for you to still get the reward with the bow even if you already defeated Meg… but you need to beat the game at least once to get it 🤣.
So yeah, tl;dr: switch weapons frequently, presumably for the ones which you didn't kill bosses with.

  9. I must say I'm loving this series! Great to see you play a different genre, Welonz! It feels a bit more relaxed, and even having some lore for you to read is the cherry on top ☺️☺️

  10. The shield block is really good and could probably have saved your bacon! It's funny seeing how different people approach different things — I was way too passive when I tried out the shield, and made full use of the block but hardly touched the special at all, which meant I wasn't keeping large groups of enemies under control when they came at me from all directions. Ah, that fabled golden mean toward which we strive… so close yet so far 😛

  11. Don't underestimate the "mobility" boons. Positioning is key, and extra dashes and fast movement DO help a lot with it.

I once did a run where I stacked every single speed and mobility bonus, and it was so damn smooth it almost ruined the game for me. Afterwards, everything was… waaay tooo SLOOOOW.

  12. Welonz ! I recommend you put the special on RMB, it's (imo) way more useful than having it on Q ! You can switch the cast to Q.

I play this way and can make strong and intuitive builds by using the special more often and more naturally :3

  13. Imo, best strat for Aegis: charge-slamming constantly. Whenever your shield is up, charging or slamming, you take NO damage from the front, even from physical attacks. It's quite impressive at keeping you alive.

  14. The shield is definitely a more aggressive weapon with added defensive abilities that make up for its more basic damage, it’s primary attack has lots of knock back which means you can stun lock enemies and bash them into walls to very quickly rack up damage, not to mention that bull rush instantly closes the distance between you and enemies while also blocking damage and dealing damage

  15. Welonz, I've noticed in not only this game but many games, when you have an option for a power-up or boost that helps when something bad happens, you seem to shy away from it saying something like "I don't want that because it depends on something bad happening" – which costs you some very good benefits. Maybe try thinking of those ones this way in the future: A benefit that triggers on something bad happening is a way to mitigate the damage and buy you a better chance to recover.

EG: that boon you passed up because "it depends on me getting hit" instead think of things like that this way "I'm going to take hits, but if I have that thing, it can reduce the harm those hits do to me".

For example, if you were a warrior in Medieval times, going off to battle, would you refuse to wear armor because it only helps if you get hit? NO! You'd wear that armor BECAUSE you MIGHT get hit and it protects you from harm in case that happens.

Just some friendly advice that applies to both gaming and life. Have fun.

  16. Something you've got to understand about Greek mythology is that the underworld is not "Hell", as the Christians view it, just like Olympus is not exactly Heaven – the Underworld is simply where all the dead people go, while Olympus is explicitly the home of the gods.

Dead souls are further divided depending on their conduct in life, with some headed to the Fields of Punishment, some to Elysium, and most simply persisting in the Fields of Asphodel.
