Trivia time:
Thanatos' raven-headed scythe may look impossibly 3dgy and cool, but it's entirely an invention of the game devs based on the depictions of Death as the Grim Reaper that are more common in medieval depictions of the concept. Instead, the Thanatos of Greek Myth was depicted as carrying an executioner's sword, though he used it to reap souls in much the same way. The population of Ancient Greece was much smaller than the population of medieval Europe, and they had another set of psychopomps (soul escorts) called the Keres or Tenembrae who would reap those who died violently in the case of mass die-offs. Since Death was a much more personal figure in Greece than in the time of the Black Death and the massive wars of religion like the Crusades and the Cathar Purge, he carries a blade for cutting away a single soul, not whole swaths of them at once.
But the Greeks did have a type of weapon that was similar to a mix of a scythe and a sword that was used by several famous mythological figures. This was Harpe, a sickle-ended sword that is known exclusively from mythology and was used specifically for slaying particularly prominent enemies such as monsters and gods. Hermes used one to slay the hundred-eyed servant of Hera Argus Panoptes. This same sickle-sword was given to Perseus to kill Medusa, and Zeus used a Harpe (possibly the same one he gave to Hermes and thus was passed on to Perseus) to slay Typhon, Gaia's monster-child who she birthed to try to overthrow all of Olympus.
All the same, this still isn't very similar to the medieval scythe Than uses, being more like a sword that ends in a scythe's curved blade (as if Lim were mounted on the end of Oros, basically). In Ancient Greece scythes were seen as peasants' tools, not fitting for use by the Gods, while the Harpe was based on the Egyptian khopesh, a curved sword that was expensive to make and thus typically reserved for kings. They did use scythes in war, however, with scythe blades sometimes being fitted to the wheels of war chariots. Additionally, Chronos' weapon was almost certainly a true sickle or scythe, as the Theogony repeatedly describes it as 'a gigantic sickle with many sharp teeth'.
Where does this leave Mel, and her use of this quasi-medieval weapon that only Chronos is ever truly described as using? Well, Melinoe is a psychopomp in her own right, being a patron of ghosts and night terrors, so depicting her as using a reaper's scythe makes sense within the game's lore of giving Reaper scythes to Death Gods. However, nothing in her own mythology, Hecate's mythology or Persephone's mythology suggests she ever used a sickle or a scythe in her training, inheritance or personal weapons. Nor does anything of Than's own myths suggest he ever used one. Thus, the weapon here is purely an affectation of the games' lore, and its mechanics also reflect this. In the first game the Keepsake that Than gives you gains power as you deal damage without getting hit, while in this game your crit chance goes up as you deal damage without getting hit. Thus the connection here is purely internal, without any further, deeper references to Greek Mythology involved.

27:42 I don't know the details, but there is currently a bug (in our favor) where magick is not being primed properly after you rarify something. You can check this effect easily by starting a new run without vow of onion and an olympian keepsake to rarify your starting boon, then a room or two later that initial primed magick just kinda disappears for some reason lol I assume that's what happened here.

I hate that this guy can streak with 50 fear and hear I am struggling to clear 45 fear with all the aspects just once lol. I cleared 45 fear with than axe, once again carried at the end by dark side but this time I had aphrodite on the dark side attack node greatly increasing the power of the dark side!!!
