Official patch notes: Eternal Spear (Guan Yu Aspect): increased attack damage; improved attack input buffering (you now can Dash between strikes)

This change is now LIVE on the PC version of the game. The changes will come to the Switch version later the developer has said. Let me know what you think about it in the comments!

  1. All the Spear Hammers have very narrow use cases… That is an issue, for sure. That's why Achilles is just so strong, it doesn't need Hammers. Triple Jab needs some tracking added to the two side stabs.

  2. I think Chaos Shield was nerfed for two reasons. It was pretty EZ Mode like you say, and also it was REALLY underwhelming when you first unlocked it with only the one extra shield and the second shield just seemed to shoot out your ass. It was too good for experienced players and too bad for new players.

  3. Serrated point is just so much better than triple jab at everything triple jab wanted to do. You actually hit the 3 hits every time and you actually hit multiple enemies (and with all 3 hits)

  4. This and Beowulf are my least favourite aspects, not even among the special aspects. Arthur has more health and the aura is a very nice perk for boss fights, Gilgamesh hits like a truck and stacking doom on the main dash upper results in insane damage, Rama is just broken and I hope they never change any of the bows and Lucifer can be good, but is always decent regardless.

  5. I'm a bad player and fairly new. I have acquired 6 Blood and would like recommendations please as to how to best invest this.

    Goal: Invest in a strong weapon (or upgrade) so that I can gain more Bloody as easily as possible

  6. I think Guan Yu would feel better if they got rid of dash attacks entirely. Doing so would make dashing into your base attacks and sequencing them feel a lot more natural. IMO it feels okay to play when doing a special build, dashing and throwing like a Kalista main. I'm not sure if that'd make it worth it, the downsides are just so big and the spear is already the weakest pick in the armory.

  7. The reason there are so many fire emblem characters in smash is because there are just so many fire emblem characters in the first place. There are currently 16 fire emblem games each with an absolute fuckton of characters. There are so many fire emblem characters that smash doesn't have anywhere close to every single main character let alone any villains or side characters. Not to mention that it's one of nintendo's longest running franchises with at least one mainline game on every major nintedo console except the GB/GBC and Wii U.

  8. They should replace triple jab with like Giant jab, and make the hitbox of the spear wider. Or make all of the triple spears originate from Zag so you can shotgun at close range

  9. The way I'm seeing it, it's a problem of three parts.

    Firstly, the spear's shit. It's slow, it's low damage, and frankly just kinda the worst weapon for no reason.

    Secondly, the spear aspects are all kinda dog (Achilles cast builds aside, and the fact that the only decent spear build is one that avoids using it as much as possible really just says everything), but Guan Yu's cons so heavily and hideously outweigh its pros that it's actually kind of hilarious.

    Finally, the spear hammers just…suck. It's got all of like…three that actually significantly improve playing with the spear, and everything else is either so narrow as to be worthless outside the niche, or so useless you may as well never even pick it.

    All this combined makes for a very bad time any time you actually want to run with the spear.

  10. Ya know what I think would be a good change to Guan Yu to keep it possibly up to par? Make the Aspect Read "Reduce STARTING health by 50%," this way you can somewhat mitigate the starting health by actively going for Centaur Hearts, and actually get a decent amount of health instead of always having very low max health. Could keep or change reduced healing as well, but that's just my opinion

  12. I think the problem with spear is the spin attack, which is too slow to be used in a game this fast paced. Imagine a hammer that replaced your default attack with spin, with zero charge up. Sure, it might have to be balanced, but Guan Yu would immediately become a viable aspect.

  13. Whenever I go spear I just insta-get serrated point if it's ever offered.

    I mean sure, the triple jab gives more area to hit with and the extendo lets you be further away, but serrated literally triples the atk, applies it all at once and has you be save you letting you use it while dodging away.

    "We had the best two hammers" my ass. Exchange either of those for serrated, trade in the 10% crit chance for 90% dmg increase with Aphro at the end there and this would've gone much better.

  14. I've had some decent success with running this spear and getting quick spin and running Artemis. It's a healthy amount of crits and decently safe. Basically just spam the spin and hang back. It's like a more powerful slicing shot.

  15. I agree, hammers are bad and the health trade off is basically taking lasting con. Spear in general is poop. Least favorite. The “buff” didn’t make it feel any better ( the aspect that is)

  16. I think the health penalty on Guan Yu would be fine if they removed part of it, either the starting health reduction, or the acquired health reduction. I don't mind starting with 50HP if the health I pick up along the way was still the normal +25, and I also wouldn't mind the health pickups being reduced by 50% if I started with my normal 100HP base, so either one would be fine, honestly… just why both?

  17. @Haelian Yo! Just completed my first 32 heat run! I wanted to thank you and JP for your analysis and play. It helped me to achieve this feat. Build was: Zag Rail, Ares Cluster Rocket, Ice Wine, Demeters Aid. Your favorite Boon: Rare Crop turned my Demeters Aid and Drunken Strike Heroic.

  18. So they amped up the damage
    And lessened the frames before you can dash cancel your normal attack backswing? And made it so dash attacking doesn't stop you from getting the 2nd combo hit? I still never see you commiting to the 3rd combo hit.

    The simplest way to fix Guan Yu would be to make combo hits add charge levels to your attack. And make charge attack interact with the melee combo, so you can toss a quick charge, then a medium charge and then a large charge in quick succession.
    But it won't fix spears, which is the worst weapon in the game.

  19. The sad thing is, I absolutely love this weapon. It hits like a truck, and I honestly forgot it had a healing mechanic. It's super fun, but the glass cannon isn't fast enough to make it feel worthwhile.

  20. I have like 90 escape attempts and have never seen this hydra battle……how is that even possible?

    And why are there hardly any mobs ?

    Most of my rooms have like 3 waves of mobs(edit later on I did seem more waves here).

    Old save is weird save ?

    Never seen the chariot either haha. (Must be heat related ? (Sorry early morning here I r confused :P)
