Dead Cells vs Hades – Which Do I Prefer?

Dead Cells vs Hades – Which Do I Prefer? | Veedotme Overexplained discussion about roguelike / roguelite games Hades and Dead Cells regarding which game is the best roguelike (if any)

Dead Cells Update 21 has just been released, introducing lots of new shiny things to play with over the holidays along with some broader gameplay changes. There’s a TLDR and an overview below, and if you want to get the full detail head here for the patchnotes. Boom, everyone’s attention span covered. TLDR: Colour scaling rework, Malaise rework, New mutations, New mob, weapon, outfits & diet, Backpack rework, Hand of the King lore room
Usual QoL fixes.

Dead Cells Update 20 brings a new biome to Dead Cells, an alternative to High Peak Castle. The Derelict Distillery is accessed through the Collector zone leading to High Peak Castle after either the Giant or Time Keeper.
Also introduces 2 new weapons, the Tesla Coil Turret and the Barrel Launcher weapon.

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.
BATTLE OUT OF HELL
As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.
UNLEASH THE FURY OF OLYMPUS
The Olympians have your back! Meet Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and many more, and choose from their dozens of powerful Boons that enhance your abilities. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as you go.

  1. oh no, u actually made this vid. best way to answer is to buy them both play them both and decide on your own. i am just saving to buy hades myself.

some of those people who don't like comparing graphics is totally me, cause my pc can only run 16 bit games, lol. other than that I like artistic graphics more than realistic graphics such as in celeste, hollow knight, dead cells, hades etc. unlike gta and such games.

  2. They're both similar enough to scratch the same itch in my brain, yet different enough that I can bounce between them to experiment in different ways.

No wrong answer imo, and one hell of a return on investment no matter which you buy!

  3. For me it's Hades on story, presentation, and music. Dead Cells takes it in combat, gameplay, and replayability, and for me it's not even close. They're both great games but if I'm being honest, I don't see Hades even scratching the surface of the amount of hours I've logged into Dead Cells.

  4. Nice opinion video, and yeah, after trying both of the games here, I do agree with your opinions. If we really had to pick a winner, Hades has an astronomical level of production and that really gives it a level of praise that it deserves here, but really, this is nitpicking territory as we don’t play roguelites for the story, we play it to die repeatedly. Both games are great, can’t really pick a winner.

  5. go hades for randomize skills , go dead cells for randomize weapons , besides lore dead cells is just better for me obviously because the game came out earlier and has more free updates

. i also prefer dead cells more because it's easier to play a satisfying no-hit game when in hades , it's EXTREMELY hard to do no-hit , and i get slightly frustrated when i get hit

  6. For me I prefer Dead Cells. I think forced overtime and Tight Deadline are the reasons why I stop playing Hades, they just throw you bunch of stuffs on screens, making chaos. Unlike Dead Cells you really learn every enemies/boss pattern and using only basic movements, dodge/block/jump etc. to deal with. In Dead Cells you die only because you've made a mistake and can't blame anything but yourself. In Hades you die because the game forced you making mistakes.

  7. Deadcells character building and mechanics are top notch. Hades has some of the best story telling ive seen in a game hands down aswell as amazing music. I prefer Hades story telling over deadcells great build variety. But that's just preferance.
