fwiw the movie is based on a comic and the ending reveal of the science lab doesnt happen in it – the actual comic is genuinely so dreadful and a little more psychologically fucked up… worth checking out

17:57 So apparently the reefs blocked whatever thing made them age faster that was coming from the metal/stone of the cove on the beach. And yes they figure this out from the note from the kid (who was the son of the resort owner). What really pissed me off though, like you said, is the fact that 1: the little boy is just conveniently really good at math and secret codes and 2) that they wait until it’s just the brother and sister left for him to FINALLY reach in his pocket and find the note that the owner kid gave him BEFORE the family got taken to the beach. They had SO MUCH TIME to decipher it.
