Previously, Fifi conjured the swan boat, which transported the party to the Heart of Hades. The party explored the Heart of Hades. In the process, they gained a few levels. Now, they will return to the Heart of Hades to confront Nelgel, the Lord of Hades and the final boss of the base game. However, there will still be plenty of game left to play after this.

Glen (time 0:27):

The party resumes in the church in Glen Castle Town. They go outside and Zoom to the Landon Mountain Summit Path.

Landon Mountain Summit Path (time 3:15):

At the summit, the party talks to Fifi at H-2 to get transported back to the Heart of Hades.

Heart of Hades (time 5:22):

The party arrives at C-7 on the southwestern balcony on the First Island. They go inside. Upstairs to the north, they take the bridge of light at A-2/B-2.

They arrive at C-7 on the Second Island’s lower level. Upstairs to the east, they take the door at E-5/F-5 to the upper level. Then, in the northeast, they take the bridge of light at G-1.

The party arrives at B-8 on the Third Island’s lower level. At D-6/D-7, the take the door outside to the fearsome Gigantes. They came out here last time and opened the red chest, but they did not look at the monolith at D-6. They do so now.

Back inside, they take the door at E-5 out to the upper level. They go through the underpasses at D-4 and at C-3/D-3. They must take out the derpy Troll at C-2/D-2 to proceed.

The party takes the bridge of light at C-1. They arrive at D-7/E-7 on the Fourth Island.

To the north, they take the door at D-1/E-1 to the Throne of Hades (冥王の玉座). They arrive at D-7/E-7 in the south of the Entrance area. Before they take the portal to the north, they prepare their lineup and restore MP. What I don’t like is that the menu closes after the player uses a restorative item. For bulk healing, it would be less tedious if the menu stayed open.

The party takes the northern portal at D-1/E-1 to the Throne of Hades proper. When they arrive, a scene with Nelgel, the Lord of Hades, takes place.

After the scene, it is boss time against Nelgel, the Lord of Hades (冥王ネルゲル). Nelgel can act twice per round. As one might expect, he has a variety of attacks, some powerful, some annoying. His bag of tricks includes Disruptive Wave and Kasap. His physical attack can deal over 100 points of damage.

During the battle, Nelgel will retreat to his throne and summon an Archdemon (アークデーモン) and a Belial (ベリアル). The party must defeat these interlopers before they can attack Nelgel again.

It helps to bring some characters at or close to max Tension so they can use Coup de Grâce abilities. However, leave one such character, such as Hussar, in reserve in preparation for the second battle. Above all, keep everyone alive and healed.

After Nelgel is defeated, another cutscene takes place. Some demonic force powers him up.

When the scene is over, it is boss time against Nelgel, the Dark Beast Lord (冥獣王ネルゲル). This form of Nelgel can also attack twice per round. His normal physical attack is insanely powerful; it can deal over 200 points of damage. His critical attack is deadly. He also has a range of other powerful attacks.

He has a Right Hand (右ウデ) and a Left Hand (左ウデ), both targetable. If the party defeats the Right Hand, the Left Hand will give him immunity to magic attacks. If the party defeats the Left Hand, the Right Hand will give him immunity to physical attacks. It is helpful to defeat one hand, but not both! Destroying both hands will cause Nelgel to use stronger attacks like Kaboomle and Kazammle.

If you left a character like Hussar at or near max Tension in reserve, this is their time to shine against Nelgel. Destroy the Right Hand, and let said character loose against the main body with single-targeting physical attacks. Raguas and Fura are essential for keeping the party alive and healthy. Too bad poor Daston turned into a punching bag in my battle.

Upon his defeat, Nelgel provides 12,500 experience points and 10,000 gold. Hussar reaches Level 47 and earns 9 skill points for a total of 12. Daston reaches Level 47 and earns 9 skill points for a total of 9. Fura reaches Level 47 and earns 10 skill points for a total of 12.

The description is continued in the comments.

  1. Description continuation:

Base Game Final Scenes (time 33:22):

After the battle, a long cutscene sequence takes place. The party is strongly encouraged to depart the Heart of Hades as quickly as possible.

    Base Game Credits (time 42:57):

Then, the credits for the base game roll. Hopefully, Square-Enix will allow me to show them. I find it curious that the credits are displayed in English! Dare I hope this means they intend to localize Dragon Quest X Offline?

Either way, this is a fantastic take on the original Dragon Quest X. Many thanks to B.B. Studio for developing it. This edition is certainly not of trivial difficulty. I know that the first expansion of the original game is currently being adapted. Hopefully, they will continue adapting the rest of the game, as well. I would love it if Final Fantasy XI and/or Final Fantasy XIV got similar treatment. As of this recording, the online game has four complete expansions and a fifth that is being rolled out in increments.

Base Game Post-Credits Scene – Landon Mountain (time 51:31):

After the credits, another scene take place at Landon Mountain. After Flukka and Fifi drop the party off, Sage Horro drops by. When the first expansion is released, the party's next goal will be to go to the hidden continent of Rendashia and find the Kingdom of Grand Zedora.

    Landon Mountain (time 54:40):

After the scenes, the party gains control on Landon Mountain. The player earns the accolade and gold trophy "Slayer of the Lord of Hades" (冥王を討てし者) for defeating Nelgel and bringing peace to the Five Continents. Horro's storyline and the main storyline of the base game are now complete.

Under Cool, Hussar spends 11 points on the ability Attack Attacker (やいばくだき), which reduces an enemy's attack power. Rats; that would have been so useful against Nelgel's second form! Of course, there will be plenty of future candidates for this ability. Under Wind-Riding, Fura spends 3 points on Agility (すばやさ) +5 and 9 points on the ability Magic Seal Wind (魔封じの風), which inflicts Fizzle on enemies.

The party Zooms to the Landon Mountain Summit Path.

Landon Mountain Summit Path (time 57:23):

The party goes to the Summit and talks to Flukka at G-2/H-2. For defeating Nelgel, she rewards the party with a Rainbow Skill Up Panel (スキルアップパネル・虹). She also gives them the Gold Golem M Coin (ゴールドマンMコイン) recipe.

Note that the party can talk to Fifi to return to the Heart of Hades. They won't be doing that right now, but it might be a good place for grinding.

Daston replaces the Gold Skill Up Panel in his Whip Skill with the Rainbow Skill Up Panel. Mjoll puts the Gold Skill Up Panel in her Fisticuffs Skill.

The party Zooms to Glen Castle Town.

    Glen (time 1:00:31):

The party rests at the inn. At the bazaar, they pick up the recipe for the Siren's Staff (セイレーンの杖), a heavy wand that requires Smithing Level 44. The party also picks up a bottle of Rich Cooking Sauce (こくうまソース).

When Heorot pulls out the Fun-Size Forge, he reaches Smithing Level 52.

The player earns the accolade "Inheritor of the Mysterious Blacksmith" for reaching Smithing Level 50 or higher.

When the party talks to the priest in the church, the online transfer function is activated. The player can receive a code that will let them create a character in Dragon Quest X Online at with multiple vocations at Level 70.

The party saves the game. Post-completion saves are marked with a star.

Next time, Heorot will begin leveling up the Warrior vocation.

    Thanks for watching!
