A malicious version of one of the older enemies; a tendency that tends to repeat throughout the postgame (even the ultimate boss introduced in the Switch version is actually a palette swap of the final boss). The party’s back to their old levels, meaning we’re not forced to use the MC any longer; however, the MC has been catching up with the party in levels and should be about as competent.

Malicious Hades Condor is the first boss that needs to be fought for the purposes of rebuilding Cobblestone, its skillset consisting simply of physical attacks, fire magic and healing spells. There are no statuses to protect ourselves from, so fire/elemental protection accessories & gear work as we try to maximise defence, Sylvando favouring gear that increases Charm for better AoE healing.

Because of how strong greatswords are, I had Hendrik, present as a 2nd attacker here, wield one instead of the safer build with the axe and shield, so that he could attack when nobody needs an extra heal (very common in this battle) or a Kabuff. Hendrik isn’t a good attacker at all here, though, as the boss is so damn evasive that one would need a multi-hit sequence attack to ensure that at least some of the blows go through. Jade would completely fail in the defensive department here, so Hendrik is our frontliner.

Rab is used instead of either Serena and Veronica, the sidequest from Angri-La offering him the best of both worlds – healing as well as Sap access with a slightly lower Magical Might stat. He wants the last spot in the party not to be targeted by physicals repeatedly, which would quickly lead to his demise (to be fair, a double strike on any one character is usually a KO here).

Erik is again used for Divide shenanigans, as I first use the skill to give me SIX attempts to poison the boss, after which I use Divide again before using Victimiser. It’s very hard to poison the boss otherwise, whether Sylvando takes any part or not, so this is my 4-turn approach to getting my 6.2x multiplier set up. Since Erik is doublewielding his knives, he’ll be landing a lot of hits. The strategy works best under Sap and Erik under Oomphle, which shouldn’t be a surprise.

Is it really a better strategy than just using plain swords? Probably not, but it’s satisfying to see so much damage inflicted on the boss in a single action – I don’t believe I’ve ever even come close in this run.
