Game Composer Reacts to UNSEEN ONES from HADES

Today we’re finally giving a proper listen to the Hades OST. I had already listened to Unseen Ones on a stream once, but I was surprised by how much more I got from it when I payed more attention. I can definitely see why you guys recommend Hades music so much!

  1. So good to see Hades on your channel πŸ™‚ its one of my favorite OSTs.
Supergiant Games really puts love into their music across their titles from the boss music to just general ambiance.

  2. Oh yeah, Hades is full of great music. And mo, not all of the music is heavy metal.

I still recommend listening to basically anything from Chicory: A Colorful Tale. "Wielder Temple" if you want to go hard, "A Colorful Tale" if you want something more along the general vibe of the game.

  3. I highly recommend anything from SuperGiant Games. Hades, Bastion, Pyre, and Transistor are all absolutely fantastic musically and all very different styles. Bastion "Terminal March" I would highly recommend for a very visceral listen. It's total ear candy.

  4. OMG, this just reminded me of some music recommendations from a game similar to Hades. I really want to see you react to some of the Dead Cells soundtrack! My personal favorite tracks are Prisoners Awakening, and Beyond Reasoning.

  5. You said that leaving the third chord out makes it emotionless, but wouldn't be more accurate to say it makes it angry? So you have happy chords, sad chords, and angry chords? Not music educated at all besides watching your videos, but just a thought I had.

  6. I played a whole lot more of hades to get to hear this song during the extra phase of the last boss fight on extra heat. The two guitarists that Darren Korb managed to nab are two Japanese madmen that have previously worked for Capcom and Konami. How did this track even happen?

  7. Since we are on a metal mood, I recommend the OST from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. All songs are very good and important to the storytelling, but I'd say specifically "The only thing I know for real" or "It Has to Be This Way".

  8. I wouldn't say the whole soundtrack is heavy metal – this is definitely the heaviest, craziest track in the whole game – but all the fight music/boss themes are varying levels of rock/metal.

The cool thing about this soundtrack is how dynamic the music is depending on what you're doing. The track will take on a completely different sound when you're fighting an enemy, as opposed to just walking around the room or talking prior to a fight or after a fight. I highly suggest the track "Out of Tartarus" or "Scourge of the Furies" to get a feel for how the music sounds outside of combat – more greek inspired with it's ancient/exotic stringed instruments – and how it morphs into the heavier, more modern rock sounds once combat starts.

This song in particular, The Unseen One, is the music for a secret, extra hard version of the final boss fight – it's essentially the music from the second phase of the original fight, but with extra layers of wild guitar solos. The Original track is called God of the Dead, and it's neat to listen to them both together to see how one influences the other and how God of the Dead leads into The Unseen Ones.

  9. Great video as always! I've never played Hades, but I’ve heard of this piece before. Wow, shred guitar and Greek myths? I love it! I like this intense guitar battle, which clashes fiercely, but at times creates amazing harmonies. It feels like a clash between strong egos of two characters in the game. This cool banger has enough power to make me want to play the game right away. I can't say I'm very good at rogue-like games, so it seems so hard to get to the point where I can hear this piece in the game. Thank you for this, Davi!
