Aw yeah! I'm so excited for a new episode! It's like the days of Echoes of the Eye when I was checking several times per day for a new episode! Thank you Welonz!
18:52 they gave u extra room there, u missed it xD
"Woah He's a hard hitter"
I bet its not the only thing that's hard 😏
I'm pretty sure Heracles could pick Melinoe up and yeet her to the top of Olympus.
Heracles is a demigod, a half mortal son of Zeus. Icarus, ironically, isn't a god at all – he's a shade, and the son of Daedalus.
Also Charybdis is a mini boss and not a boss
Icarus was the original disobedient son. He didn't listen to his dad Daedalus while fleeing their capture on a set of wings they crafted by flying too close to the sun which melted the wax that kept his feathers together sending him falling to his death.
You know, the more I think about it, it's crazy how, considering you managed to go this far up the surface and down to the underworld and beat chronos, without fully upgrade your grasp, your Arcana cards both the upgrades and all of the useful cards, using mouse and keyboard, haven't unlock all available weapons, and the aspects of it. I have to say, great work!
Interesting that you picked a boon that reflects damage both from Hera and Zeus.
Oof, that was a rough second zone there. I also hate Charybdis here… Luckily it doesn't show up every time. But at least that was some nice tech you got while fighting Eris!
About rerolling the doors, if I'm not mistaken, you have two type of boon rewards: Minor Finds (the meta currencies: Ashes, Psyche, Bones, Nectar) and Major Finds (everything else?). When you reroll a door, you get another reward from the same category. So you can get a Boon or Path of Stars when rerolling a Coin door, but not from Ashes.
While some in the comments all over Heracles, I'll take Icarus any day. Both Lord Moros and Icarus are humble and polite young men which traits that often underrated in guys. Anyway, this was interesting episode because after Welonz started losing health after each encouter, you really could sense sadness in her voice (sometimes I think that Welonz is too hard on herself as a player), but suddenly after being defeated by Eris Welonz's voice was excited from realisation that she learned new things which will help her to beat Eris later, and overall vibes of the video changed into positive experience. It was a rough run, but with great ending. That's why we love watching your channel, and believing in your gaming capabilities! (And, no, I'm not trying to cosplay the waitress from Alan Wake DLC lol)
The Boon counter includes the active boon you get from the trinket you've got equipped.
I understand the appeal of Melinoe/Nemesis (short/tall dynamic go brrrrr), but Icarus seems like such a sweetheart. I didn't expect them to know each other, but the list of suitors keeps growing lol
Fun fact; Icarus's VA is Asa Butterfield. He's more well-known for TV and film such as Sex Education, Ender's Game, Hugo, Miss Peregrine's, and so on. What a surprise.
~41:00 Yeah, Charybdis feels like it should be a biome Guardian, even fits the in game definition of being a powerful enemy with a name on the health bar, but officially it's just a mid/mini boss that may or may not show up on a run and doesn't trigger any Guardian specific interactions. I've got a feeling it might get promoted to full Guardian at some point in Early Access, fulfilling the role of being the surface's Lernie/Infernal Cerberus equivalent of a non speaking one. Way too many mechanics for just a midboss, and has the whole named bar thing
Hey Welonz, will you be playing Stray Gods: Orpheus?
Remeber not all arcana will be available or worth giving up for others
Whether the child of a god and a mortal ends up being a god or a mortal kinda depends? It's not really consistent. Often these demigods are seen as mortals who are able to achieve godhood during the course of their life.
"Eris made good sport of us before!" I see Hera still hasn't forgiven Eris for that stunt with the apple. Not that I blame her.
I'm loving Heracles' design. It's exactly what I'd expect out of him. Plus he has a fantastic voice to go with it.
When he says that no one else is standing up, I assume he means that no one in the town is standing up to the forces of Chronos. The gods are too busy fending them off at Olympus, so they need heroes like Heracles to fend them off in the cities. But everyone else is dead, gone, or Polyphemus, so…
Heracles' godhood is complicated. He was born mortal, but was accidentally breastfed by Hera, which gave him godlike abilities. For all of his deeds in life he is generally considered mortal, but Heracles is very much an exception among mortals, even among other Greek heroes. In the Gigantomachy he is explicitly a mortal, for it was prophesized the gods would only defeat the giants with the aid of a mortal, that mortal being Heracles. However, he might as well have been a god for all the feats he performed and, when he did die, he underwent apotheosis – the process of becoming a god or being treated as one. (and yes, Heracles was the son of Zeus, but that honestly doesn't mean a whole lot for whether he was mortal or not. They might receive divine patronage, but human children of gods were at the end of the day still human children).
So, tl;dr, born mortal, drank that milky way, was essentially superhuman, died, ascended to godhood. Heracles is very hard to properly categorize because he was just so dang popular that, even before getting into all the different versions of him, he was the exception to pretty much every rule.
I'm not sure what he's supposed to be in the game though. They do refer to him as "Mightiest of Men," but he is also apparently able to freely move to and from Olympus. Plus that ability to poof away like Artemis does. So I think I'm leaning towards "is a god already."
22:03 That's not a trident. That's a bident and is one of the symbols commonly associated with Hades. I think it was supposed to symbolize Hades control over the beast, Cerberus, as similar tools were used to tame or capture wild animals, but I'm not sure about that.
"guy at the anchor is the captain" The guy at the steering wheel would be the helmsman. The captain doesn't typically steer the ship as they'd be more occupied with managing the ship as a whole.
Heh, funny commentary on the barrels. Greeks would have used clay pots like amphorae instead. It's still weird to me that they opted for a more modern conception of a warship instead of going for more authentic versions for the period and setting, but at least they acknowledge the weirdness.
Icarus actually isn't a god. He was a mortal son of the renowned craftsman, Daedalus (the guy whose hammers you keep picking up). Daedalus and Icarus were apprehended by the king Minos and imprisoned in a tower on an island. He crafted wings for him and his son to escape with, but warned that flying too close to the ocean would soak the wings and weigh them down and flying too close to the sun would melt the wax used to bind the feathers and they'd fall. Icarus ignored these warnings, instead overcome with ambition at the freedom of flight and soared higher and higher until his wings melted and he fell into the sea and drowned.
That's probably how Mel knows him. He was a shade and must've escaped to the surface when the doors of Hades were flung open. I'll be honest, it's kind of a weird choice seeing him actually being responsible and coolheaded for once. But I do enjoy that Supergiant gave him a bit of his father's inventiveness. That's cute.
Oh, yeah. People definitely liked Hermes. He was the god of travelers, tricksters, merchants, thieves, athletes, and more. He was in charge of sending messages to and from Olympus and transporting the dead to Hades. On long travel routes there existed posts known as Herms to mark the way (warning, if you google them, do so in private). And in the modern day, he and his Roman counterpart, Mercury, are absolutely everywhere. Just look around and his winged sandals, helmet, and the caduceus are all over the place.
Though, fun fact about that last one, its most common modern symbolism is wrong. Hermes' caduceus is often used as a symbol of medicine and hospitals, but the actual symbol ought to be the Asclepion. Asclepius was Apollo's son and a god of medicine. His Asklepian is a rod with a single snake winding around it, meanwhile Hermes' caduceus is a rod with two snakes winding around it and the two symbols got confused with each other.
The main use for bones, in the long run, is buying moon dust for arcana upgrades and nightmares for aspect upgrades. Taking the bone bonus weapon wont make much difference for the next 20 runs or so, but once youve unlocked most of the stuff it will help reduce the grind
That was by far the cleanest Polyphemus kill to date! Congrats!
I don't know if Frinos is that big of a help during fights, but he's so dang cute hopping around.
Yeah, Heracles is a demigod though he was so powerful he got accepted into Olympus at the end of his myth. Looks like here he's not at that point yet, still doing tasks for someone.
Icarus is not a god, but a mortal who died when he did not listen to his father. He was the son of Dedalus, the great inventor who also built the Labrinth, and when escaping capture with wings that Dedalus made, Icarus flew too high against his father's orders and died when he fell. Which is why Mel knows him, because he is a pretty boy shade. Also, he's voiced by Asa Butterfield.
Charybdis is not the area boss. She is a miniboss, Eris is the main one.
23:18 i've just realised this vid that the curved grey highlight is supposed to be charon's chin not his smile. always thought it looked friendly lol
I was on like, my 60th run before I figured out how the Gods' Keepsake rarities worked, but basically:
– You can manually upgrade any offered boon once a run
– One Star Keepsake allows you to upgrade a Common to a Rare
– Two Star Keepsake allows you to upgrade a Rare to an Epic
– Three Star Keepsake allows you to upgrade an Epic to a Heroic
