  1. Heads up so when it comes to the codex, it's actually location dependent NOT just event dependent. Ie if you just finished off enough enemies to get an entry, but you open it while standing in front of gems that dropped, it will open the gems entry. At least I believe that's how it works from my experience.

  2. This is such a fun game. Your series actually got me to buy it.

Some tips from someone who finished the story.

1). Hyper Aggression is more benefit than a penalty. You are fighting too timidly in my opinion. The best block is to No Be There (Dash like a madman).
2). Athena's Dash move is the ideal dash; accept no substitutes on a serious run. Also, Hangover stack up to 5 times so boosting it even by 1 is a 5 damage increment.
3). Pom should only be used to enhance your main offense strat (usually Attack).
4). I'd argue that two boon rooms trump a hammer room in most cases.
5). The best use of Chaos is to increase Darkness, Gem, or Gold yields (best for farming resources)
6). You actually don't want to spend a lot on Charon, won't spoil why, but it is beneficial to have 1200 Gold by the time you reach the 4th level.
7). That being said, spending gold on health or permeant resources (Darkness/Purple or Gems) are the most lasting purchases. Pools 1st choice will always be something health-related.
8). Don't forget to spend your Darkness on the Mirror (it's how you get stronger).
9). Bomber guys have a suicide attack after you kill them (that is what got you last time).
10). Anyone you can gift to will give you a Keepsake of some kind. Chaos is my favorite. Hades gives you one as well, but it takes a while to get to that point.
11). The game encourages you to keep changing weapons, 1 weapon each run will have Dark Thirst which gives you a 20% gain in Darkness. You almost ALWAYS want to choose that weapon.

  3. i can tell you that my favorite keepsakes are from Skelly and Cerberus, if you only have one next time you head back, i would suggest giving it to either. Also, doggo needs a treat

  4. Stuff you get in rooms in order of power
    1. Daedalus hammer
    2. Double boon
    3. Hermes boon
    4. Chaos boon (stronger then 3 but risky)
    5. Nectar (doesn't help in a run, but rare)
    6. Normal boon
    7. Chtonic key (same as 5)
    8. Centaur heart
    9. Money
    10. Darkness (better then money if you have the healing darkness mirror power)
    11. Gems (all the good stuff costs diamonds anyway)

As for trading, after you unlock the full mirror, weapons and work orders, try to always keep 15 keys and 100 gems as rarely you can trade them for a boss drop

  5. about charon's shop, if you don't like the other option go anyway, even if you don't have money. the shop means you get at least one chamber without fighting, which can save you in the long run in health terms.

just smth I've noticed on my runs

  6. Yay, more Hades!!! ^.^

Re: Reward Importance, it is definitely a matter of preference, which weapon you have and build you're going for, as well as non-run priorities you have set (work orders very important and can make later runs easier, therefore getting more stuff to spend even more). Under normal circumstances, this is usually my loose order of importance:

-Hammers. You only tend to encounter them twice during a run, max. Unless you're doing a very specific type of run, your choices are almost always an upgrade that increases damage, speed, etc.
-Health upgrades, because I tank a lot and am super greedy lol
-Boons are always great. Which ones ultimately depend on your weapon and what synergies you can make. For example, the deflect attack boon won't work very well for your bow or spear compared to the sweep of a sword or shield. That being said, Athena's Divine Dash (aka the deflect dash) is hands-down the best boon you can get since it shuts down many enemies well. Hermes in general is also pretty good since his boons tend to go with most builds (faster attacking, extra dash, extra cash, etc). If you get a boon you're not crazy about, you can sell it for coin (some over 100). I tend to avoid trials and trial rooms if I'm having a rough go.
-Nectar is great in early game because it can help gets toys from characters and advance their stories. Very important in early game to get the ball rolling, but downgraded to "nice" in late game (unless you have the Dionysus boon that gives you health upgrades). Some nectar in early game is great with Cerberus and Skelly, as their trinkets are great for newbies in particular.
-Coins (if I need them). One good shopping trip saved a run for me. Also good for getting more boons as well as health. If I have a lot of coins and I'm not saving for anything, I may choose other stuff.
-Character encounters, depending if I need them for health, poms, death defiance, etc. In early game, it's good to talk to them whenever you can for the sake of story. I would almost put it on top if you're looking for story to maximize plot progression of runs.
-Keys, gems, and darkness mostly depend if you're saving for something. Keys are most important in early game so you can unlock everything, then gems if you have important outstanding work orders, and then darkness, but it depends what you're going for. Late game is where darkness shines because there's a rather nice upgrade where darkness heals you.
-Poms I find to have diminishing returns the higher a boon gets. Get it if you can, but there's better stuff.
-I go to Charon mostly once per area (usually at the end) unless I have cash to burn. No point going to him unless there's something one can afford, so good to know how much healing, boons, etc, cost.

Of course nothing is set in stone, and plenty of people can share their differing priorities too. Part of the reason why the game is so great is that there's so many ways to play and every run can feel unique as your priorities change.

  7. As with a few others, I picked up this game after your earlier stint. I'm a little handicapped by a dodgy controller (one run, I finally died when, with my thumb off the stick, Zagreus walked slowly forward into a death-beam) so I'm not ashamed to be using God Mode.

God Mode gives you a flat 20% damage resistance, but each time you die, it improves by 2% (I believe the ceiling is 80%). It's worth considering as an option if you do hit a wall.

Hermes boons and Daedalus Hammers are both extremely rare opportunities – you'll typically see about 2 of each per run – and I'll rarely pass either of them up for anything else. The two gods thing is one of the few I'd consider, though you'll want to find out how that works before you make a final decision.

The Fated List of Minor Prophecies is something you want to get as soon as possible (it's next on your list of work orders anyway) – it has a persistent effect on your play, and is something you'll want to start on sooner rather than later.

If you have a reason for hoarding Darkness rather than spending it between runs, you might want to articulate it, because at the moment it looks like you're opening the Mirror, looking at the cost in keys and going "can't afford anything" without considering the things you can spend Darkness on.

  8. Luigi's Mansion 3 would have been the better series to continue. It's more on-brand for the channel and much more in Dan's wheelhouse. Plus, I'm so over this completely overhyped game. Hope you have fun, Dan.

  9. Also, can confirm, dash deflect is AMAZING. there are certain enemies in later areas that fire basically cluster bombs at you that will also just straight die if you manage to deflect it back at them.

  10. Tips to Dan if you’re planning on continuing in Hades:
    1. Give Nectar to best doggo for keepsake.
    2. It’s always Hammer time. Always.
    3. Max out the damage bonus from casting spells into enemies.

    Trivia:
Tartarus is the Greek equivalent of Hell, and the place where actual punishment occurs. The realm of the Dead (Hades) itself is fairly purgatory-like; not great, but not terrible either. The Elysium fields would be the equivalent of Heaven, short of being invited to Olympus itself. Flanderization led to the entire realm of Hades being thought of as Hell, and him being the villain in so many stories *coughDisneycough*. In reality, he’s much more like the Anubis or the Underworld Judges present in Chinese (and possibly other Asian) mythology.

I also enjoy the fact that they drew Poseidon’s hair more of a greenish color instead of blue, as it fits the old descriptions of the Greeks describing the sea and skies as “bronze-colored.”

  11. So happy to see this being finished on here. I bought the game myself on Switch and I don't normally care for roughlikes and feel like I don't really have the free time to get good at a high skill game like I used to but there's something kind of relaxing of picking a weapon and doing a run to try to get just a little further. Still haven't been able to beat Meg with anything but the spear but I'm always making progress, more darkness to put in the mirror, more gems for the contractors.

When dying means you just get to go back to the house of Hades and talk to everyone that hardly feels punishing. Also while I can not say if it is the optimal decision and pretty sure giving the nectar to Dusa is a great idea.

  12. My favorite boons are from Athena, as tip I found that focusing on one god boons seems to be overall better, some gods do work together but I always found that focusing on one is better, also Aphrodite and Dionysis boons are trash

  13. 25:10 the bomb boys drop bombs when they die and you got hit.
Orange bombers plant a few bombs(I think 4) on the ground on the spot where they die and green bombers lob a bomb that's a bit delayed. Iirc purple bombers don't drop anything. Best method is dash far away once you kill them just to be extra safe.
Also give nectar to the dog. He will give you a very useful trinket for early game.

  14. I haven't played this much, but it's a lot of fun discovering boon combos. My best one so far was sword lifedrain + god gauge on damage taken + Aphrodite's call (which deals insane amounts of single-target damage).

  15. give a bottle to the dog you'll love his aid… btw, I suggest turning on god mode cause it might take up to 30 hours to finish even at best and thats just getting the mother back and reaching a true ending … and since its a rogue like it will take a long time if ya have to do 1-5 runs every episode … even at best my runs ended up at 40 minuets at best …

  16. I'm so excited for the rest of this run! Your initial videos of Hades were what got me started playing.
    Couple tips:
    – Call is really great for later boss battles
    – Don't neglect your Mirror of Night
    – Minor Prophecies are your friend
    – Make friends as much as you can with the NPCs. Their interactions and plots are so much fun.
    – Focusing on one or two gods per run can yield some really good boons.

  17. 36:30 Dan, you should try to change up your weapon every run. The game lets you know which one will give you bonus darkness with that twinkling purple-crystal aura around them. It gives you an extra 20%, which can be a big help to unlocking the mirror talents.

  18. It's kinda funny how Dionysus says he "ought to feel some kinship" with Zagreus considering that the two were once the same god… (the history of dionysus is so old and fascinating, it's almost sad how he's just the god of wine)
