Hades Gameplay – It's Not Like Diablo. It's More Insane

At first glance, I thought the frantic Hades gameplay is similar to Diablo. They’re both in isometric view, and involve destroying rooms full of enemies. So they’re the same, right?

Hades is a god-like roguelite dungeon crawler from Supergiant Games, the makers of Bastion and Transistor. This week, I discuss how the Hades gameplay works, and how it’s different from the Diablo action RPGs, which seemingly appear similar.

You play as Zagreus, the son of Hades, as he seeks to leave the Underworld and reach Mount Olympus. However, this isn’t your usual hack and slash game. Because it’s a roguelite, you start from the beginning when you die. And as Zagreus, you’ll keep dying to escape the realm of Hades.

  1. Diablo is more insane than Hades. dying in hardcore hurts way more, the newer game has shared stashes which makes the hardcore experience more like a roguelite, a la Tangle Deep or Shiren the Wanderer
