Hades: IGN's Game Of The Year 2020

Hades is the latest opus from indie heroes Supergiant Games, a studio that simply doesn’t miss. It’s a game that offers a serious challenge and gives you the tools to experiment and adapt the world to your will, and it’s the best game of the year.

Supergiant has a short but affecting history of creating stylish and thoughtful characters and worlds, but this is its masterwork. That’s why it’s our honor to call Hades IGN’s 2020 Game of the Year.

We selected Hades out of our list of 10 Game of the Year 2020 nominees. Easily one of the best games of 2020, Hades unique blend of hack-and-slash action, light RPG mechanics, and incredible narrative made it easy to name it this year’s game of the year. 2020 was a year full of incredible experiences across several genres, but ultimately only one can be crowned best game of the year.

IGN spent weeks debating the best games of 2020 in order to prepare for our annual goty awards. Across multiple genres, several platforms, and entertainment categories like best movies 2020 and best tv 2020, our best of 2020 awards were chosen by the IGN staff.

  1. The question is, how did you vote at the Game Awards? Did you truly try for my master then, or are you trying to receive brownie points after the events? Anyway, don't mind me, l am clearly biased.

  2. I have loved ign for years but after seeing this im seriously disappointed, have you not seen cyberpunk 2077? The story is at least enough to put it at the number 1 spot. Considering I played the game on xbox one, the game ran great and had the same number as bugs as Skyrim, if not less.

  3. Honestly considering ign has no real idea how to review a majority of games i thought they would sell out and give abbyzillas rampage part 2 the award thankful they choose not to take the money from neil druckman and naughty dog

  4. I think it's very fitting that an indie game developed by a company with a great work ethic and commitment to try to avoid crunch for their employees won GOTY, when the biggest gaming news this year was the absolute disastrous launch of a Triple A game that represented all of the worst aspects of working in the video gaming industry

  5. IGN what are you Smoking. Hades is great, but don't rate a game purely on its content. Everything must be taken into consideration. Just because you lost so many hours into a game, doesn't mean that it is better than anything else. Just mean that the developers have given us gamers a great deal and for that we are all grateful, bit GOTY is something else.
