One of the most well-known stories is how Hades became infatuated with Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of harvest. He abducted Persephone while she was picking flowers. Demeter, grief-stricken, caused an eternal winter.
Sisyphus was condemned by Hades to push a boulder uphill, only to watch it roll back down each time he neared the top. This eternal and futile task was his punishment for deceit and trickery, mocking the efforts of the gods.
