Hades
In Greek mythology, Hades was the god of the underworld, ruling over the dead and the riches that lie beneath the earth. He was the brother of Zeus and Poseidon, and was one of the twelve Olympian gods.
Hades was often depicted as a stern and fearsome figure, with a dark beard and a helmet that made him invisible. He rarely left the underworld, and was known for his unyielding nature and sense of justice.
Despite his reputation as a fearsome ruler, Hades was not an evil god. He was responsible for maintaining order in the underworld, and ensured that the souls of the dead were judged fairly and given their rightful place in the afterlife.
One of the most famous myths involving Hades is the story of Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, who was abducted by Hades and made his queen of the underworld. This myth explains the changing of the seasons, as Persephone’s return to the earth brings about the renewal of spring.
Although he was often feared by mortals, Hades was an important figure in Greek mythology and played a vital role in the lives of both the living and the dead.
