Hades v1.0 Full Mirror Guide and Tips

*Slight addendum to Golden Touch: I’ve seen some interesting comments around taking this over Deep Pockets so that you can save enough gold in a run to afford the meta currency in the Styx shop which is actually an amazing idea when you’re still hard up on Titan’s Blood and Diamonds!

  1. Thanks this will help a lot. Just started the game on 1.0 and beaten Hades on try 16 with the bow, did not really know what I was doing, kind of a random win but was so happy 🙂

  2. I think the two points I'd strongly contest is Soul and Defiance.

I think Stubborn defiance is incredibly good when you're learning the game. You can make a lot more mistakes that don't cause a run to come crashing to a halt. It's a big weakness for bosses, but if you're dying on the way to the bosses, stubborn essentially makes you have 130% HP per chamber rather then 100%. You can always die intentionally to traps or the last mob to get that HP spike if you'd otherwise end a chamber lower then the 30% mark. (Yes I know there's a boon that does this too, but this is something you can always lean on when learning without needing to fish for a specific boon.)

When it comes to Souls, I 100% am team Stygian all the way. It's my default, and I only swap to the other one for a weapon aspect that loads the crystals, or dislodges them. I find that when it comes to casts, running around trying to collect crystals leads to some pretty hectic situations, and having the safety of fire and forget that you can use from a distance, and maintain safe positioning isn't something I think should be understated. Which one is better then the other isn't something I think can really be easily said, they both have their pros and cons, and I think it's really dependent on the weapon/build to decide which will work better, but you should try and get comfortable with both rather then only use one and ignore the other.

  3. I think a noteworthy point on Fated Persuasion vs Authority is consistency of the run vs consistency of payoff. By consistency of run, I mean that Persuasion nearly ensures getting key boons together with forcing an Olympian via keepsake if necessary, as you mentioned. However, I think everybody ends a run now and then with several Persuasion rerolls (maybe even 7+ thanks to additional rolls from Chthonic keys), because they always got boon selections that had at least one choice which was too good to roll away even if it was not perfect. On the other hand, getting value out of Fated Authority is actually guaranteed because there will always be underwhelming chamber rewards. Additionally, any remaining rolls can be used in the Temple of Styx because there is so much information and optionality in the main room: God no longer has useful boons for you? Roll for a different one. All Gods are good? Reroll Pom, Obols, Heart, whichever you need least. Need Obols to buy an additional item from Charon? Fated Authority got you. And so on and so forth.

Unfortunately, after this long rant defending Fated Authority, I have to admit that I still tend to play with Persuasion. 😛

  4. Stubborn Defiance reduces the stress of not dying, but Kiss of Styx Premium from Pat and Ordinary Kiss of Styx from the well only allows for increased health on revival (30% and 10%) for 15 encounters, so Pat's freebie isn't enough to last till Hades, unless Pat is the second last room before Thesus and its a lucky day. The runs to defeat hades is a health stack up to 200 to 300+. On a side note, taking Cursed Slash + High Confidence + Stubborn Defiance is a 10/10 experience, would die again.
Fated Authority + Dark Foresight + God's Legacy creates wild builds, and duo boons aplenty. Great for prophecy clearing, so thats midgame experience?

  5. How about a Keepsakes guide?

I know most of them are God boons related, but I'm interested in what you think of Hermes' feather or Thanatos' butterfly, which if played right they scale insanely well before even finishing Asphodel

  6. Personally I really like ruthless reflex. I haven't gotten to high heat levels yet, but the 50% dodge feels spectacular to me a lot of the time, and the damage is just gravy. It was definitely a rough adjustment, but my telegraph reading and dodge timing have both improved a lot when I have to get it right on the first dash. Plus I don't mind going into a lot of Hermes rooms, even if I miss the extra dash boons most of his stuff on offer makes me happy to see, particularly the flat dodge and (if found early) side hustle. Even something like attack speed is nice because it means that I have an easier time timing my dodges if I'm not locked into an attack animation.

I also find that Dark Regeneration felt really good for a long time, until I started consistently getting to Styx every (or at least the vast majority) of my runs. There's no more darkness to get after getting out of Elysium, and Styx likes chipping you for lots of small hits through the snake statues, little rats, and poison. With so many mini-chambers to run through, I end up getting a lot of health out of the transitions in Styx.

That said, you've played a lot more of this game than I have, so anyone reading this should take my opinions with a grain of salt.

  7. Would you say it's a reasonable assessment that the Red side is generally the "consistent, if boring" talents, that will come up nearly every run, while the Green side generally is the "situational, but spikey" side, that if you're particularly bold, dedicated to a build, or a little crazy, can really go nuts with? Because that's been my general assessment with them.

  8. Awesome explanation 🙂 I watched Jawless Paul's video, and it was very helpful! But this video was more succinct and I feel like your advice was clearer/better. Just my opinion 🙂

  9. Hard, hard disagree on Golden Touch. It easily nets 200+ gold over the course of a run. Taking advantage of Charons final shop is much better in my experience than using shops in Tartarus and Asphodel

  10. When it comes to some of these I have slightly diffrent opinions
1.Shadow vs Fiery. I prefer Fiery personally on most of my run's minus rail or aspects that have low starting dmg. Shadow has better over all dmg but Fiery makes those first few rooms easy to clear without taking more dmg (Butterfly gets a ton of assist from this as well)
    2. Dark Regen all the way. It can be a clutch run save 9/10. running a bit low in tart oh look bigger heal cause of the boulder bros. Oh hey look 2 types of infernal troves give you hp now. oh the forced darkness room full healed me awesome. etc etc.
    3. Death defy cause of uses on bosses and rewarding not dieing earlier so the fights have higher chances to be successful.
    4. Greater Reflex cause got to go fast.
    5. I take abyssal more often on range builds just to force distance on bosses a little bit more. Its a small slow but damn can it help. and having a bit of extra tank stats for ranged is nice. Boiling is better for higher dmg runs of course with melee weapons with higher outputs.
    6. Infernal is better all around and more reliable but certain Stygian builds can be very powerful and reward not having to go search for stones on the ground every 2 seconds. using hera you have extra dmg every 2 seconds and don't have to worry about having to get closer to death if you don't need to.
    7. Golden Touch has gotten me a ton of final shop gold more often then not. I can often on the last 2 floors gain more then enough benefit to warrant the choice. Especially when chaos or Poseidon decide to rain down money multiplication on you over dmg you can very much find the dmg else where when you are out of rerolls.
    8. I normally go high confidence for most of my runs cause I tend to run butterfly and try to scale as much as I can earlier to basically pop off quickly. If im planing not to get hit might as well get that extra juicy dmg. (but that is just my playstyle that I find fun and would normally not take it if I wanted a safer/reliable run)
    9. Privileged is better all around but can force too many early game decisions alone while family gives more freedom but less output on average. Im split on this though I lean Privileged as of late.
    10. Foresight is very good and can give more reliable stats which can be nice so I tend to lean towards it. But taking Favor can lead to higher 'quality' runs cause over quantity.
    11. God's pride tends to be better for the reason of reliability to not get commons. But when going for certain builds Legacy is very good cause 10% can mean the world.
    12. Persuasion is very good on almost ALL runs it allows reliability in getting at least the type of boon you are looking for. BUT fated authority can force a run to go towards certain builds you are looking for by discarding boons/rooms you believe will negativly impact that particular run and shuffle the gods you do want in.

  11. Just got far enough in Hades to look up some info. Thank you for making this vid. I want to point out a consideration about Privileged Status/Family Favorite: Darkness Cost. It's significantly cheaper to max out Family Favorite. I think there's a decent argument that FF is the better initial buy.

  12. okay hear me out.
I choose golden touch instead of deep pockets because up in the Temple of Styx I always save up for the diamond or titan blood which means I ususally have like 1,000-1,600 obols, which means I will get at least 100 obols and thus making the deep pockets talent useless.
