Random bit of Greek Mythology trivia: The Lamiai are based on half-serpent monsters from very old Greek myths, one of whom was sent by Apollo as a curse upon the kingdom of a Princess who killed their lovechild. The spellcasting comes from an evolution of the mythical half-serpent creatures where they were conflated with Queen Lamia, a Libyan ruler whose children were murdered by Hera as revenge for Zeus having an affair with her. Made mad with grief, Lamia took her own revenge on mothers by devouring their children in the night. Lamia's myth evolved into a boogeyman story in Greece, with her gaining the powers of an enchantress in the style of a stereotypical wicked witch and becoming a half-serpent monster similar to the one in the game. I assume the larger Lamia miniboss is supposed to be Queen Lamia herself, with the other Lamiai being based on the original monsters.
