There’s actually really cool studies on the ad stuff you were talking about. For the location stuff, they can track that since your ip is tied to your location. But the cat litter thing, apparently advertising is effective enough that it will get you talking about things, and only then will you realize it because those ads apply more to you.
I did work for an ad exchange for a bit, so I have some knowledge regarding that. Bear in mind that we were quite small and tried not to be scammy, but…
Regarding location, there are IP location services that can get pretty accurate, so that's one way you can get "local" ads delivered to you. Twitter works that way, too, and it's especially funny when you're in transit in an airport and get local ads for that specific place that you're going to be in for 3 hours tops (hopefully!).
As for the "phone listens to me" thing, I'd like to believe it isn't true. The simplest explanation is that, in all the data that ad exchanges get, they can also get their hands on your wifi name, IIRC? Or, basically, they can aggregate ad profiles based on wifi. And the big money is exactly there, in trying to build as big and accurate a profile as they can, which is one of the things that EU regulations tried to crack on.
Anyway, that's why, if someone in your house searches for cat litter, and ad companies detect this in your aggregated profile, anyone in that house can start getting ads for that.
In any case, remember that you can always reset or even delete your advertising ID, both in Android and iOS. Both have different controls for this, but the option is there. With this you should be able to limit targeted ads.

Is it just me or is the staff just kind-of the most OP of all the weapons overall? Like just enough range to hit from far but not so much you lose melee abilities. Fast attacks. Easy to build with most God boons.
