Hades is a roguelike action role-playing video game developed and published by Supergiant Games. It was released for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2020, which followed an early access release from December 2018.

Players control Zagreus, the son of Hades, as he attempts to escape from Underworld to reach Mount Olympus, at times aided by gifts bestowed on him from the other Olympians. Each run challenges the player through a random series of rooms populated with enemies and rewards. The game has a hack and slash combat system; the player uses a combination of their main weapon attack, dash power, and magic ability to defeat them while avoiding damage to progress as far as possible. While Zagreus will often die, the player can use gained treasure to improve certain attributes or unlock new weapons and abilities to improve chances of escaping on subsequent runs.

  1. CONGRATULATION, YOU'RE WINNER!

Yeah, seeing the gameplay at the start of the run made it pretty clear this was likely.

You did mention that you wanted game suggestions for LPs in the previous ep, and coincidentally, recommendations is one of my favorite things XD

While I don't think any of these suggestions would be great for a FULL playthrough, they're great one-offs. Both hit the same exact issue where long lps will suffer because there's 0 story to follow, and ONLY gameplay.

Noita is a great little roguelike about being a wizard and constructing wands. It's mechanically very neat, and urges you to construct game-breaking wands. The unfortunate side effect of managing to make a hyper-lethal wand is that you might get careless and hit yourself with it!

For my personal favorite game of all time, Spelunky 2. If you like platformers, this is great. It's similar to Hades in that the thing that differentiates length of runs is mainly game knowledge, rather than significant skill advancements. That being said, it's SUPER punishing, so most lps don't get past world 1 in their quick looks. I can count myself as one of the few people to have done the extremely difficult run to 7-99!

Another project that isn't out yet, but deserves to be on your radar is 'UFO50'. It's a collection of games by some indie developers (creater of Spelunky, Derek Yu, being one of them), where their goal is to construct a collection of 50 small games. The release date has been 'next year' since 2017, so it may be a bit, but I know from their twitter / twitch that they are still working on it! Derek has said that since Spelunky 2 is mostly done, UFO50 work is going faster.

I figure I might also mention that I think I may have indirectly influenced your lps already! I know you follow the TwoBestFriendsPlay reddit, because that's how I found your channel to begin with. If you actually started playing Baba Is You because you saw Paige / Woolie played it, you can directly blame me. The day Baba got a release date, I sent all of them donations being like 'YO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS THING IT'S GREAT'. I admit, I didn't expect it to be as much of a Paige meme as it did XD
