Lauren plays Hades #30: Frustrating losses, big accomplishments

This was a really frustrating stream but my big takeaway is that there are DIFFERENT SONGS that play when you fight the same bosses. I say this because when I fought the champions the first time there was some SERIOUS CHUGGING GUITAR WORK and the second time around it wasn’t so chugging, and that’s cool, that just means periodically we GO RIGHT INTO HELL DOOM-STYLE AND I HAVE NO MUSICAL COMPLAINTS

Anyway, on a more serious note, I hope you don’t mind that I kind of worked through on stream why I was so frustrated and upset and struggling emotionally with that second loss to Hades. I am seriously considering turning on God Mode after this, because I think I’ve proven to myself anything there is to prove; I’m really proud of myself for all the good work I’ve done learning to play this game, and I’ve developed skills and reflexes I never would have expected, and I’m still having fun with it — but I think I want to see more of the story now, and a little extra nudge seems like a reasonable way to make that happen.

The writing is so good. I love the characters so much. I have talked friends into playing it and they’ve fallen in love with it too but it’s just SO GOOD. So I don’t have any complaints about the game, either; I just think I’m ready to take the freely-offered opportunity to speed things up just a teensy bit on the story and less-frustration front.

  1. You did a great job in both of those Hades fights. The first phase is the toughest because he summons all those enemies. I think it's just a matter of staying calm and watching out for his big swings. It's tough though, I feel your frustration!

  2. Mechanics stuff for God Mode and my opinions on having used it below. Overall, do recommend. This isn't a figure it out mechanic so I think I'm safe telling you, but if not, stop here.

I played with God Mode on because I wanted to focus on story more than not dying, and I was hesitant to take it off because I accumulated a lot of survivalibility bonus and didn't want to lose it. Turns out when you do, it remembers and you get that same amount back when you turn it on again. So you can try it out, and turn it off any time. The one disadvantage is it will make you less risk averse, in a way that can get you into trouble with it off.
