Lauren plays Hades #36: Looking for Eurydice, getting Mort + accidental victory

ONE YEAR OF HADES STREAMS?! Well, kind of, but we took a couple months off for various reasons. Still, though! That’s a whole lot!

We’re never going to see Eurydice again, are we? :/ Not at this rate. But my YOLO runs have been pretty fun in their own way! And we accidentally beat Hades on the last run (sorry, spoilers) but it was a close one and very exciting for me. Also, Zag and Than are well underway, so I’m very excited for that ship to sail. I think I’m getting better at the game? Like, even knowing that various upgrades are making it easier, I feel like some of it is still an increase in skill, and that’s cool! I’m learning to be better at this game! I guess I’d better be, after a whole year!

  1. Lol I actually never thought of Discworld when getting Mort somehow.
🤔 you're starting to near thresholds where stuff does stuff and it's got me thinkin what the next game may be.

I've heard you mention Disco Elysium in passing and now that I've recently beat it, that's my vote.
Not normally into cop stuff, but it's a fascinatingly complex world where, if you want, you're given the chance to be a better person and see how it does or doesn't effect people around you.

  2. I would like to recommend the game Spiritfarer. It is selfdescribed as 'a cozy management-game about death', in which you play as Stella, a girl who together with her cat sails a mystical ocean as a Psychopomp. The game's artstyle is heavily inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away and has a lovely soundtrack.

Spiritfarer is a very emotional game that is very cathartic to play, especially for people who are dealing with grief.
As someone who has trouble showing emotions, this game really helped me to come to terms with some of my emotions and even managed to make me cry on a few occasions.

  3. 2:28 On your philosophy on expressing anger in men and women I have to disagree a bit. In my opinion expressions of raw anger aren't seen as manly (or womanly), but as a sign of immaturity and childishness. The range of acceptable emotions for people seen as men only included particular kinds of anger. Just look at the emotional outburst of anger from your average movie-villain. These people are never seen as mature or a threat, and often the butt of jokes.

Anger is only acceptable when it is controlled and used for a specific purpose. The ''get stuff done'' and the ''speak softly and carry a big stick'' kind of anger. Look for example at Nyx's anger towards Hades when he doubts her plan's in your last stream. Nyx clearly is offended and angry, but she remains in command of both the discussion and herself. She shows the force behind her words, but at the same time shows respect for Hades. She has full control of that discussion and literally ''rules''.

Who would call Nyx's anger un-ladylike? I, and I suspect most would call that ''commanding herself with the grace of a queen'' (commanding reverance, and awe and fear).

I do agree that in our society this view on emotions is not discussed well and is often limiting, but I do think that the ''careful, you are threading on dangerous grounds'' subtle and controlled anger is acceptable and even respected in both men and women, even in today's society.
