As soon as you confess that Jesus is Lord, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, you join the battle, you join the fray. You have come to the gates of Hades this morning. This is where we worship. This is where we sing and pray and hear the word proclaimed. This is where we break bread and share wine in the presence of our enemies, and make our good confession.

Pator Toby, I kept waiting for you to exegete the word Hades and not allow the pagan definition – the kingdom of Satan – to be implied. Hades is the abode of the dead neither good nor evil, though as Jesus indicates in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, there is an uncrossable gulf between where the reprobate dead reside and those covered under the blood and forgiveness of Christ (i.e., Abraham's bosom). So when Jesus said even the gate of Hades will not asail His church, He is referring to death which He also references as the final enemy, death (i.e., the gates of Hades) and Hades (i.e., the entirely of Sheol), that will be cast into the lake of fire on the last days.
Or, do you disagree?
Maranatha!
