Game Description:
Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.
BATTLE OUT OF HELL
As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.
UNLEASH THE FURY OF OLYMPUS
The Olympians have your back! Meet Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and many more, and choose from their dozens of powerful Boons that enhance your abilities. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as you go.
BEFRIEND GODS, GHOSTS, AND MONSTERS
A fully-voiced cast of colorful, larger-than-life characters is waiting to meet you! Grow your relationships with them, and experience thousands of unique story events as you learn about what’s really at stake for this big, dysfunctional family.
BUILT FOR REPLAYABILITY
New surprises await each time you delve into the ever-shifting Underworld, whose guardian bosses will remember you. Use the powerful Mirror of Night to grow permanently stronger, and give yourself a leg up the next time you run away from home.
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE
Permanent upgrades mean you don’t have to be a god yourself to experience the exciting combat and gripping story. Though, if you happen to be one, crank up the challenge and get ready for some white-knuckle action that will put your well-practiced skills to the test.
SIGNATURE SUPERGIANT STYLE
The rich, atmospheric presentation and unique melding of gameplay and narrative that’s been core to Supergiant’s games is here in full force: spectacular hand-painted environments and a blood-pumping original score bring the Underworld to life.

Remember how you said that you got different prizes from the Hydra by beating it with a new weapon ? I guess the same might be true for the other bosses. Using different weapons might be recommended for unlocking new things.
32:36 Oh man, imagine if you can get that extended range attack on the spear combined with Poseidon's knockback! You could pin enemies to the wall and stunlock them there at range until they're dead!
Minor spoiler for the Elysium boss fight mechanics:
Focus the minotaur first, Theseus invokes the help of gods once he's half HP.
You almost had it last time; good decisions! Keep making good decisions!!! You got this Keith!
Me when I see Meg: Meg! Love of my life, light of my day.
Meg: get back you simp! I don't want company.
14:55 uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
It's interesting seeing what weapons people click with and what they don't — I think pretty much every weapon has its advocates and its detractors which is cool. Personally I like the spear a lot, and part of why is because of the special, so the fact that your playstyle gravitates so far away from that is interesting.
theres a clock icon under the Hermes Plume ticking down to the time limit
yeah the casts that cant get stuck in enemies are stronger because they dont trigger the mirror boon for extra damage/slower movement.
Also the "deep pockets" mirror talent caps at 100 gold which can be quite hard to obtain with the 15% interest talent its also 100 gold to spend in tartarus while the 15% interest can only reach 100 gold when you reach Elysium
14:55 loading…
Considering Demeter is a Goddess of Seasons and that she gives Ice themed boons while IRL there is Winter.
Would that mean that Skills Demeter offers vary based on IRL season?
Like, give 4 different status effects, since changing skills themself would be ridiculous. Chill for Winter, something else for Autumn, Summer and Spring.
zag has dialogue one of the first times you pet Cerberus where he says he only pets one head because the others dont like it (aka the devs didnt want to animate a pet for all 3 heads lmao)
Yeah, extended spear is basically a combo version of the bow. Same range, combo instead of charge.
There's no realistic cap to poms, but there's huge diminishing returns. The amount it goes up with each level is lower, and the increase is only additive.
When you deflect a cluster, the offshoots will also damage enemies and not you.
53:37 You turned rear attacks off.
8:41 If you wanna know how to get the duo boons, make sure to check the game wiki on them (so you know what the required boons are) and use the keepsakes of whatever pair you're trying to get. Once you get the first boon from a god, it's more likely they'll keep showing up for the next boons (that mechanic is what makes god-related builds possible).
14:38 Yeah, you only meet Demeter after you reach the final boss.
51:25 Apaprently poms don't have a hard level cap, but most boons are usually not worth upgrading past level 3 or 4 (since the upgrades have diminishing returns).
you say the diamonds and blood seem random but thats not the cast as the game shows you and say every time you first beat a most with a new weapon you get the Blood, diamond, ambrosia
another reason to keep changing weapons
Those "cast" beam crystal can be tossed you dont have to spawn them on yourself
There's a little timer under the icon for the plume that shows how much time you have. It's also weighted by what room you're in, very heavily populated rooms have longer time limits to compensate.
General advice for the spear:
It seemed like you forgot part way into the run that the spear's special can throw/recall the spear to do two quick hits rather than just charge the big AoE. This is good for applying "on-hit" effects like hangover, Zeus lightning, or chill because it's a fast attack that can potentially hit the same enemy twice. Also, because the recall starts out behind an enemy it nearly guarantees backstab damage unless you move before recalling the spear. Lastly, Doom may be a flat damage bonus but it is a sizable one and decent on skills you only use occasionally (effectively "tagging" the enemy with doom before returning to your normal attack pattern). The special's throw is a base damage of 50 (25 x 2hits) and the base doom damage is 60. That's 120% damage increase for the special.
In the Codex under each God you have a list a every boon they offer and the requirements for those boons to be offered.
So far only won against Thessus and the Minotaur once, and It was with the spear. Spear is my favorite weapon because of its special, when it returns it backstabs.
Ares cast, the vortex that deal damage gets really stupid with more ares boons… it gets really stupid… even more with the areas and artemis duo boon… try it out at some point
I Often go for that just due to how broken it is
Just a reminder that the blood fountains are not only available between worlds but they can be found in normal chambers as well. You can use them to sell a boon that you don't like or is no longer relevant, like the Hermes boon after you got Demeter's cast.
Like the wells of Charon though they only show random three at a time so it might not be available to sell, but it doesn't hurt to try and hope that you can.
Ares is actually pretty nice on the shield attack because it means you can attack to doom everything and then just hold block until the damage from Ares Doom occurs.
…wait. does this mean next vid we might see the fists in action? OAO
shield n fists are the best weapons imo- they’re the msot fun to use and inherintly op :”)
(though there is a future upgrade to the bow that redeemed it massively to me)
To get Duo boons, you use the Codex entry, specifically target a duo and pick boons required from both gods to have them as a possibility. And then you just hope you can encounter either and have the boon potentially show up as an option. If you're lucky, you can have your first Duo before you even leave Tartarus and then potentially get another one or two. Most of the time Duos aren't deep down god's trees as well. Legendary boons are but not Duos. It's more that Duos sometimes can get specific. There is a lot of them that focus on a cast, for instance, so you have to have a specific cast ability on you and then one of basic attacks of the other god in order for it to appear.
At the point in the game you are at, to go for a Duo boon you need two things, really. Pick a starting god via their keepsake, have in mind who you want as a secondary for duo and try to avoid boons from any other gods if you encounter them along the way. If you find your secondary by chance, great. If you don't, you switch to their keepsake before Asphodel. In best case scenario, you will only have boons of the two gods you picked for Duo (don't worry about Hermes, he doesn't count here), meaning game is far more likely to give you their boons again instead of gods you don't have yet. So, getting that prophecy to pass, especially at the start, is a slow process, but 15 Ambrosia is a lot. It is worth it to try.
The spear was my least favorite weapon, it feels like it tries to be able to do everything in one weapon but ends up being mediocre compared to each weapon that does well in what they specialize in.
Still waiting for you to be demanding a refund for stubborn defiance not paying off, I know I was when I bought it only to never die in regular encounters again but needed the second defiance during boss fights.
Beating Hades once is just a beginning, so buckle up, I guess xD
Builds start making even more sense than what you did with the shield once you unlock all tiers of mirror and all weapons. Later mirror talents, although expensive, give you some control over what happens in a run, so you can build your Zag more efficiently. And what part weapons play in this I won't spoil.
Prioritize getting fishing rod. I am serious.
To avoid confusion: on trade screen, tiny icon in right hand corner is the price, big icon on the left is the thing you are getting.
Fun fact: game really, really wants you to get second Hammer in Elysium. If you don't take it in one of early chambers, you are guaranteed to see it as a chamber choice again later on.
Yesterday I did a run where I focused on Poseidon cast. Initial plan was to get Duo's from Artemis and Demeter to boost it but, on my way there, I got offered Exit Wounds by Artemis. Let's just say that with Stygian Soul and two boons upping number of my cast stones I was putting a lot of them in enemies. Demeter's duo would prevent that from happening. I did get it to show up, it was still one of fated choices and I decided to pass on it after all, for the sake of the build. Extra 752 damage after a bit per bow shot was well worth it though.
Shield elite soldiers or whatever their name is shoot projectiles. That's what has been hitting you the most, I think.
Perhaps Hammer ability that gave you that large dash strike attack is what made it feel stiff? You lost a lot of dash range for that and you didn't have extra dash from Mirror or Hermes, or even Hyper Sprint from Hermes. All of that combined makes it pretty hard to escape large AoE's, like ones Asterius likes to make.
think the new enemies and demeter is due to you getting as far as you got last time
The spear throw is great for getting behind Theseus the sphere is by far my most effective weapon. It has reached four days I can be thrown and do backstab and it's quick
Hydra's a "she", I believe, if you're so intent on not calling her an "it".
In most European-West Asian languages with a speck of sense behind their rules (as in, everything except English) there is a common occurence of feminine words and names ending on "-a". That's why all the female characters in, say, Pathologic have the names they have (Katerina instead of Catherine, for example). There are exceptions, but Greeks were quite intent on gendering their bestiary (Gorgons would accurately be called "Gorgonas", for instance, except English is stupid. Considering how Greek and Roman heritage trickled more onto the eastern side of the Mediterranean (the Byzantine Empire), it's not really a surprise that the languages there adopted the words more accurately).
Nerd rant over.
I can explain at least one issue you are having with the Theseus/Asterius fight and in general: you are kneecapping yourself by not dashing through terrain objects. Every pit, every pillar, every hedge or wall or column that doesn't make up the walls of the room itself can be moved across/through while dashing. In the Theseus/Asterius fight, dashing through the columns in the arena not only allows you to easily deal with Asterius's tracking charge attack, but it gives you an excellent way to juke Theseus's spear throw or just keep a solid object between you and Theseus to break his line of sight. Remember, the spear Theseus throws deals 20 damage going out and 20 going back. Asterius hits hard, but getting hit by Theseus's spear will tear you down in a hurry. Dashing through the columns will make it a much easier fight.
I have a question to Keith or other knowledgeable viewers… the diamond keith earned was for a bounty. My brain sees that as some kind of milestone system but not based on regular things like floor count or times completed. Anybody know the deal on bounties?
I love the spear, especially its Daedalus upgrades.
One particular upgrade is just BROKEN mixed with an Athena boon and the bonus range daedalus bonus. But it is definitely a very "stand, stab and rotate" fighting style with the base spear.
There's a stiffness to that weapon or maybe you keep using that stupid stubborn defiance lol. 3 DEATH DEFIANCES OVER STUBBORN ANY DAY.
it depends on whether you are going for the titan's blood, diamond, etc. if you aren't then you are going to get 50 from the fury, 100, from the bone hydra, 150 for thesus and asterius so that is 300 darkness without going for darkness chambers and without dark thirst go for dark regreneration. If you're going for bounties take chtronic vitality all the way
the posiedon knock back + wave + rupture is actually amazing. it was a higher tier build for sure
if you hold down the spin attack long enough it max's
there is a timer right under the hermes keepsake icon
the pulse 40 damage occurs in very quick intervals around you and stuns enemies
lol its hard to compare any run to a bull rush power shot Poseidon wave break spam
Wait a god damn minute, there's a little timer thing under the plume icon that slowly ticks down during encounters! To show you how long you have to clear the room and get the bonus! …I have put over a hundred hours into this game and I literally only just noticed that. God damn it.
…though it makes sense I only saw it in a video of someone else playing, it's pretty small, and during combat I'm too busy to be looking at that part of the screen, especially when I'm under time pressure. And it disapears after the challenge is failed. Fucking hell.
