Game Description:

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.

BATTLE OUT OF HELL
As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.

UNLEASH THE FURY OF OLYMPUS
The Olympians have your back! Meet Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and many more, and choose from their dozens of powerful Boons that enhance your abilities. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as you go.

BEFRIEND GODS, GHOSTS, AND MONSTERS
A fully-voiced cast of colorful, larger-than-life characters is waiting to meet you! Grow your relationships with them, and experience thousands of unique story events as you learn about what’s really at stake for this big, dysfunctional family.

BUILT FOR REPLAYABILITY
New surprises await each time you delve into the ever-shifting Underworld, whose guardian bosses will remember you. Use the powerful Mirror of Night to grow permanently stronger, and give yourself a leg up the next time you run away from home.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE
Permanent upgrades mean you don’t have to be a god yourself to experience the exciting combat and gripping story. Though, if you happen to be one, crank up the challenge and get ready for some white-knuckle action that will put your well-practiced skills to the test.

SIGNATURE SUPERGIANT STYLE
The rich, atmospheric presentation and unique melding of gameplay and narrative that’s been core to Supergiant’s games is here in full force: spectacular hand-painted environments and a blood-pumping original score bring the Underworld to life.

  1. This game introduces a concept of Chaos that is probably a lot different than what the normal conception is these days. We are use to thinking of chaos in terms of disorder and disorganization, a meaning it did not take on in English until the Elizabethan era. In the original Greek cosmogony, Chaos was the void that preceded the existence of the universe. The word chaos (kháos in Greek) literally translated to 'emptiness, vast void, chasm, abyss'. Chaos was both a thing and/or an entity in various Greek schools of thought. This version borrows bits and pieces from many of those Greek philosophical traditions, with a lot of Supergiant spin on the whole package. Also, as you will see during later in-game dialogue and is implied by the overlaid male and female voice, Chaos has no gender. They are also probably my favorite character in the game for many reasons, starting with the whole unexpectedness of their appearance. Going into a game called "Hades", anyone with even a threadbare understanding of Greek mythology will expect at least some of the usual suspects, like Zeus, Athena and Ares. By comparison, Chaos is probably a fairly surprising appearance in the pantheon. In terms of gameplay, as I said in my pervious post, it is almost always worth while to go see Chaos, as their boons can be extremely powerful and game-changing and always are added in addition to other boons, meaning they will never replace anything. This will become even more true later on as you learn how to increase your health total and the various means to restore your health, making the cost of going to see Chaos less significant. It will also be easier to visit Chaos once you unlock their keepsake. Unfortunately, you did get to experience the other biggest downside of Chaos boons, which is heading into a boss fight one of your abilities on hold. Personally, I will still take the risk for mid-bosses, but I will almost never grab a Chaos boon if it will carry into a boss fight.

  2. A lot of the minibosses sort of act like "checks" to see if your boons are good enough. The witches' circle tests you on whether or not you can deal with groups of enemies whilst not getting hit, and the butterfly ball checks to see if your DPS is high enough. Fail the check and you'll have a very bad time as you experienced.

That said, you got really unlucky with boons this time around in that you were hardly offered any and none helped your Attack. Choosing Artemis over Ares was really the only thing you could have done to help in that regard and it probably wouldn't have been enough.

  3. >Cerberus why do you shed like a tree.
Because its a tree headed dog? (☞゚∀゚)☞

Witches room without Bow special? Ouch.

Hermes boon are "special" like the Daedalus hammers, they are premium because its always an improvement without using up a slot for other boons.

  4. Man, this run you would've really benefited from Shattered Shackle keepsake, and you didn't even look at it, I think. It can really make up for poor luck in boons. You did have really terrible luck though, and the bow is tricky.

  5. Ngl you had us in the first half. Every time your health got lower and lower I was like how in the world does this video have so much time left lol. Come to find you're a scrappy dude. Also the hero you found has some of the BEST gifts. I almost always replenish my death defiances when I see him.

  6. Hey Keith, immensely enjoying this playthrough!
You probably already did this, since you are probably ahead a couple runs, but I think you can (and may need to) look up the Elysium hero you met in the Codex. The others will certainly correct me if I'm wrong, in which case ignore this 😄

  7. Ah the witches' coven is probably my least favourite room to fight in with bow, gun or spear, and easiest with sword, shield or gloves! Anything which can deflect or at least destroy projectiles in an AOE just nullifies that room.

  8. A couple of times you favoured a couple of boons that gave you options for attack and special, and whilst you favoured your attack this run, those boons were "per enemy hit by" the attack or special, and your special hits way more than your attack

  9. Yknow, since the witches in Asphodel are called Spreaders, and that's the only place you can get the witches circle miniboss, I guess that means you could also call it a superspreader event
