Lounge and Fate | Hades #3

Today I thought I’d play Hades given that every time I open my Steam library I am guilted into looking at it with all of its many shiny video game awards and its many shiny reviews, so here it is.

  1. Hey mr Samuel,

I have a few tips for you.

-You shoud be moving more, standing in one place is quite reckless
-Give out one bottle of nectar to everyone you can find, it doesnt have many uses besides that
-Boons from other gods than Ares are powerfull too. Athena shield and attack boons makes you nearly invincible while mashing attack and dash.
-Poseidon combo dash+damage on slam, or/and water blast is tier S for fights with multiple enemies
-Daedalus hammer and Hermes boons are limited thru run, take them when you can
-Room before boss fight is always "free"
-Skull icon near reward icon on door means hard battle
-There are duo boons, you can get them when you have 2 boons from different gods. Quite powerfull
-Bow deals higher damage, when you release just after it charges.
-Try different weapon playstyles. And take more boons from other gods. One tactic may be viable on one floor, and completly usless on the other.
-Once again, move for 80% of time. It really helps with survivalbillity

-Coin symbol is money, bag is shop.
-When you see new icons on doors, go thru them

  2. Mr Streamer: Meg is so angry. Guess the hint is in the name, huh?
    Me: The "Kindly Ones"?

(I know, I know, trolling, but the furies were called the Kindly Ones for much the same reason fairies were called the Shining Host, the Lords and Ladies, … You don't insult someone who can chase you until your feet bleed and tear you apart with their bare hands.)

  3. The bow has the same power shot mechanic as in Bastion. I know some people don't like it but it hit that old muscle memory for me and it's probably my favourite weapon.
New players really underuse their whole kit, probably because they're all pretty similar without boons. Like with the bow, If you're using the attack as your main damage you can get a status effect on your special to spread it around. If you feel like you're lacking AOE or ranged damage maybe get a cast that fills that niche for you.

  4. Since you're looking for advice regarding the game, all small item troves (where you can spend a little bit of money for timed bonuses or small health upgrades) are almost always a trap. Ideally, you'd want to hoard as much money as possible for whenever a shop room appears, giving you extra boons/permanent health increases etc.

  5. So, first off thanks for the amazing content.

Others have said it, but I definitely recommend unlocking all the weapons first.

Please read through some of the codex whenever you feel you can. It helps a lot with some basic knowledge if you look through all of the categories.

Blue laurels around the door means the currency rewarded is a "Roguelike currency" and sticks with you between runs until you actively use it.

Gold laurels means it's something that affects the current run, like a boon, or gold, and these go away when you die.

They never make you choose between the two, this is just for categorization of the types.

It takes me about 22 minutes to 25 in-game time on a normal run, so 30 minutes max.

I have a lot of hours into this game and my muscle memory pushes me to go fast because I was into the speed running scene back when the game came out. I look forward to you learning more about the game, because there are many cool things that come later.

A skull means an elite room. Tougher encounter at minimum, full miniboss encounter at max.

This is all you, and I know how it goes, so you do you, but I'd say not to skip too much dialogue. Some of the funniest things in the game get exchanged between Asterius and Zagreus, and the game will absolutely stop supplying you with dialogue when it's run out.

  6. The bag with golden skull is a shop not bag of gold. The coin is money. Remember the difference cause coin is one of the least worth reward and the shop is one of the best.

  7. You have an upgrade to deal more damage to enemies with your cast stuck on them, there is no reason not to throw your cast at every chance you get.

Also the treasure troves are really not that bad, I think you just panicked that one time

  8. OK so those room rewards that look like pouches with a bird skull on them is Charon’s shop, you will see one about midway through the area and the second one is right before the final boss of the area they don’t have coins in them it’s the shop, if you choose one of the other rewards for the room like the centaur heart in front of the hydra this time around you miss out on the shop. In my opinion it is much better to save your gold for Charon’s shop instead of buying from the wells. The room reward that has coins is a big round gold coin. Also if you ever come across a room reward that is a colorful round rock with an exclamation mark on it take it.

  9. Whaaat, Mr. Streamer is playing hades? Less gooo!!!!

Awesome game. Little advice for builds: you basically want to focus on a single main damage ability ( attack specisl and cast are all viable ), and get upgrades that work with it. Which updrages are best depends on the speed and base damage of attacks. Fast attacks are good with zues, dionysus, posiedon etc. that give stacking damage or flat damage per attack, while slower heavier hitting attacks are good with artemis, aphrodite, aries etc. that give max damage increases and critical chance.

Think about the speed and timing of attacks when you pick upgrades, dionysus has a boon which gives a stacking damage over time effect, and artemis has a boon that gives increased base damage and critical chance for example. The stacking DoT is alot better if you can apply it quickly with the spear jab say, while the flat damage and crit chance would be better on a slow, heavy attack like the overhead chop you get from a hammer upgrade to the sword.

Also, hammers are very, very good, and the one upgrade you can't force with trinkets. Always go hammer.

  10. At first I hated the bow… now with more than 500 hours in this game I know how to use, but still the weapon I have the most fun is the fists.

  11. Really enjoying seeing Hades again. I don't remember the exact reason but armor breaking buffs are only good to a point. You should focus in general for high damage synergies boons. Pick either your special or attack to be built around room clearing or hitting one target. The room clearer is good for the armor break buff since they will never lose health if they have some shield left. Also think a lot about the hammer since they are limited. I think you went straight for explosive spear and ignored the one that chains to 7 targets putting doom on all of them. Hammers can get ridiculous with their synergies

  12. One thing I've tried when playing, bought the day you posted first episode and put around 6 hours in so far, is to pick a god early and try to just keep picking their upgrades in a run to see what they do. All the gods have their basic effects but once you get past that they can also have special effects. You saw one today where Poseidon gave you a bleed/chip effect on enemies that were knocked back, but to get that effect you first have to take the knockback effect from Poseidon. Good luck!

  13. Later on you will get the ability to switch the powers in the mirror. The ability to revive on death per run can switch to once per room. It does cost 600 to get but it might be useful to you.
