  1. So some general context to help you out with the story;
    The Ascians are the remaining Ancients of the world before it was split into 14 shards.
    Back when the world was 1 emet-selch and the others were apart of a group known as the Convocation of Fourteen.
    During this time a world ending Calamity struck the planet and warped the laws of reality, causing chaos and killing everyone. It was known as the End of Days for them.
    To stop the world for dying, the Convocation decided to make the first Primal, Zodiark, he would rewrite the laws of physics and return the world back to its natural state. However to call him forth required for half of the population give up their lives. They agreed and it was done and the world was saved.
    In order to bring everyone that sacrificed themselves to bring Zodiark into being, the Convocation wanted to sacrifice another half of the population of the new world.
    However, some of the Ancients, didn't like this plan at all and instead formed Hydaelyn to try and stop the mass sacrifices. Hydaelyn beat Zodiark and split himself into 14 shards and in so doing also split the planet into 14 shards as well. She also ended up splitting everyone and everything.
    The only people to escape the sundering, were lahabrea, elidibus and emet-selch.
    With everything in utter chaos, they decided to try and rejoin the worlds, sacrifice the remaining population to revive everyone who died and bring everything back to the way it was.
    So our bad guys are really just people trying to put the world back together and bring back their people and loved ones.

    It also also turns out that you/we/the WoL were also alive during the time of the Ancients and we/you were one of them who were split apart.
    Moreover, we were friends with emet-selch and Hythlodaeus(the guy you met at the DMV(lol))
    Emet has been trying to put you and everyone else back together for forever and doesn't view the current population of people as actually people, just 1/14 of what they used to be. So, in his mind, sacrificing them doesn't matter because they would all just be combined and made whole in the end.

    Ardbert as it turns out is you. Or 1/14th of you from the First. He joined with you as the end, megring with you making you closer to being whole. Which was why his merging healed your soul and allowed you to overcome the Light inside you.

    Anywhoo, most people like emet because they don't truly view him as a bad guy, just someone who wants to save his friends and loved ones and return the world back to the way it was. Because to him, our world is twisted and messed up. And true enough, most people agree that were they in his place they would be trying to do the same thing. So when he asks you to remember, he is conceeding that your way is correct but in so doing you are leaving behind a lost history from before, when you were an Ancient and it will never come back now. He wants you to remember that they lived and that there once was a complete world with people that lived there. Where your old friends and loved ones once resided with you.

    Anywhoo, in 5.3 the game will take a closer look at the Convocation of Fourteen and its members. It also has some important stuff to do with your character. Good luck hope some of this helps clear things up!

  2. Emet was fighting for the same thing you were. For love. You as a warrior of light fought to save the 1st and your fellowship. Emet tried to fix the world and bring back his love ones. This made me questioned myself. Did I as a Warrior or light commit a genocide against the ancient? I had no excuse of not knowing anymore since Emet revealed about them. And ultimately, Emet may needed to cause genocide to bring back his world, you also did the same thing to save your world. Who's really the hero?
