Your the best AJ!!
It was the Norse pantheon in Deities & Demigods that got me into AD&D in the first place – mythology is a gateway drug to fantasy. 🙂
Hey, I mentioned this recently! Awesome to se you work on it so soon afterward. Thank you so much by the way! I can’t wait to see more on this series if you decide to continue it.
❤
I wish i had more coffee before this drop, and its strange ive become an old man watching all your continent
As always.. Great work 😮
Very well done!
Does Dnd use the original myth of Norse or the version recorded by Christians? (I just want to know)
Neat, back to the gloom we go!
What's Nidhogg's relation to the Dragon pantheon?
Lots of dendarous foes
Outstanding work as per usual. Thank you for posting ❤
Alright this one was a long time coming.
I really like your coverage of the Planes. Alignment and the Outer Planes are one of the central tenets of 1/2e AD&D and it’s great to see that your keeping that alive.
good video AJ
I was aware of the Greek, Norse & Egyptian pantheons, but I wasn't aware that Hindu deities had made it into d&d😊 A.J, do you by chance have a video that goes over all/most of the different planets of the Material plane/different crystal spheres? I enjoyed your video on Realmspace specifically, but I've also seen you use an image of a giant mape of different Spheres throughout the Phlogistan, and I realized I didn't recognize 90% of them
surprised no mention was made of how in the forgotten realms nidhogg is known to be an alias/aspect of Dendar the night serpent or at least, that the ancient Rus believe her to be nidhogg and call her thus
Doez AJ sound sad you guys? AJ sounds sad.
After Hades i look forward to your remaining planes videos.Especially the Beastlands and a Deeper Look into Arborea, if not Mechanus/Limbo.
Don't stop boss man. Love your lore and effort.
You know, the Image at 5:34 min, and especially the ones from 7:32 – 8:34 min gave me an idea.
While the PCs are either in, or in a place close to, the Feywild, they have to travel through an area with what seems like unnaturally dense fog, which allows sight of maybe a few feet in front of you at best, with them constantly hearing whispers and feeling watched, while passing carved monoliths every now and again. And when they set camp for the night, they wake up the next morning with their camp next to one of the monoliths they passed the day before. It's distinctly one they passed early the day before, so they should be several kilometers away from it by now. To confuse them even more, they're very clearly still in the same place they made camp last evening! It's all the same, except the giant Monolith, that obviously is new to them, but clearly was here for a very long time (meaning, no signs of being moved, or altered in any way, shape or form, except from things the PCs did, like leaving a mark on it).
The next few nights, they wake up in this exact place the next morning (including any alterations they made to the place), as in, their entire camp is back to this place, though not necessarily exact, like maybe their camp is a few feet to the left of the first camp, or the configuration of the camp is still the same from the evening before, but the camp itself is in the location of the first camp.
It's up to the GM, if the camp was physically moved back to that place, or if the place "followed" them, so the first campsite "inserted" itself into this new location, so a few steps away, they are in the place they set up camp and there is no progress lost.
Then they wake up in the place they set camp in the prior evening, no Monolith, no sign from the first campsite, only to wake up at the foot of another Monolith that wasn't there before the following morning, ftom which point, regardless of if they stay at place or wake up in the first campsite, they'll always find at least one Monolith close to their camp, with a mix of ones they clearly already passed before and some they're yet to encounter. Unless the PCs themself set up camp near a Monolith, in that case, they either wake up to no Monolith in sight, the Monolith having shifted place (like, go to sleep with Monolith on the left of the camp, wake up with Monolith on the right), or find another one in its place.
You could have the monoliths "encroach" on their camp, weeping angels style, where the PCs wake up with Monoliths staying in the same configuration, but being every morning a little bit closer to the camp, like one Monolith appears always to the southwest, but the first morning it is 30 ft away, next it is 29, then 26, 24, 22, etc. Only to one day wake up and find their camp completly surrounded, as if it was a Palisade. Or wake up to the sound of rain, but being dry despite not having set up a tent, to find the monoliths arranged in a way to create something like a teepee.
Maybe they wake up with a single partymember missing, who got up at night and couldn't go back due to suddenly being surrounded by monoliths.
Be creative.
But whatever happens, the monoliths are only ever weird, maybe scary looking and unnerving, but never dangerous. While they may scare the PCs, they never pose any threat or do any harm.
It's just some fey, whose kind of fun is to relocate giant monoliths at night to prank travellers.
Love it. Acheron next please <3
Gehenna, Hades, and Carceri are some of my favorite planes to show off to newer players. The abyss and 9 hells are so well known, i love these just as evil but different planes.
My players will be heading there soonish. Thank you so much AJ!
I've been waiting for this series to continue with baited breath
Not to be confused with Sniffleheim, the Norse realm of minor colds and allergies…
So for me it's a little bit different since I have left D&D and moved on to Pathfinder I've kind of went through and merged they're sort of Realms and planes of existence but I also decided to take a step back and move everything toward a more real life mythology what's up with the bass of creation nifelheim is the realm of cold I believe so that the plane of ice where is helheim is essentially my version of The Shadow fell. Which is led nyx The Raven Queen . And there are no Creator deities like the racial ones like the dwarves the Dwarven Pantheon there's possibly a dragon Pantheon since I can technically still Tiamat and Bahamut but for the most part it's kind of like certain deities are worshiped in certain areas and they tend to just take on the appearance of whatever race is calling Ford for seeing them or whatever so a lot of dwarves might worship Thor for war but they would worship Vulcan for the forge you know it's it's just as likely someone might worship raw the Sun God as to Worship sol who is the Sun apologies I haven't gotten to talk about my world in a long time and it's kind of eating at me that like itch so I I to splurge out lots of random facts so I do apologize thank you for the video
Hades isn’t really multiple planes. It’s just one. You only see the parts you believe in. Worshippers of the Asgardian pantheon never see Oinos, even as they pass through it. They are the same place, but you only see what fits your beliefs.
It’s like an onion, but the reality is that all of the layers are actually one layer. The layer of the Abyss controlled by Orcus is also one of the Glooms of Hades, as is the Elysian Fields of Elysium and the Tarterian depths of Carceri. All of the upper and lower planes of existence are glooms of Hades. It is the afterlife and it is tailored to you based on your beliefs. They only exist as separate planes because of the cultural beliefs that give each form.
Hades, Pluton, Orcus, Arwwn, Hel and countless other names exist for the master of the afterlife in different cultures. They are one and the same, but cultural beliefs make them different, just as the cultural beliefs make their planes different. A soul with no cultural teachings dissolves away in the Astral, with no punishment or reward for a moral or immoral life.
That makes Plane Shift a dangerous spell to cast. You may find yourself floating in the Astral if you don’t believe in the destination you have chosen. That’s where wizards and priests intersect. A wizard’s manual of the planes and a priest’s holy scriptures may be identical to prevent a mishap in plane shifting.
That’s how you do a cosmology that works. I got the idea for it watching Erik the Viking back in the ‘80s. The character in the movie who didn’t believe in Valhalla didn’t see Valhalla, so he was unaffected by it. He just walked through walls that the other characters could see.
AJ you have no idea how much I have been looking forward to this.
Nice to see you returning to the planar cosmologies, Sage. It’s one of the things you cover quite well.
This is perfect adventure inspiration
Love the video.
Fiction compare to reality, arrogant Protestants would say I was demon plagued.
My grandmom lost both sons to crib death and nearly her first daughter at birth. Our family and extended German family gives babies stuff wolf and cubs. Mother wolf Angrboda looks after us and we look after the cubs. Most babies cry for Teddy bear we called for Boda.
I was 4yo and had a bad case of bronchitis and pneumonia, my grandparents ask me who is my new imaginary friend was. I said she is H'eLL and she is helping me breath.
Needless to say my grandmom wasn't very pleased with my new friend.
Head and chest full of mucus and your brain slowly being starve of oxygen and you can see some interesting things.
2.) Angrboda, wolf mother and bringer of sorrows.
Hungry wolves during winter would raid human livestock. Hearing howls of nearby wolves was a dire sound.
Good news, there are only so many wolf packs to a given location. So human raised, food condition, groom/ brush wolves right into our own pack families. Even a wild lone wolf needing a pack/family can be food condition to a parent human. Use your own wolves to protect your stock as early warning guard animals.
Bad news is when you hear the howling of dozens of packs surrounding your farm, that meant humans are raiding you.
Some people claim direct blood line from Odin, other call Angrboda and Loki as their .. godparents.
H'eLL was your old aunt/grandma that takes cares of you when you are sick.
b.) The region of Germany my great grandfather was from has a crimp right ear canal which is a minor hearing problem and gives a distinctive dialect .. speech .. impediment.
I had to deal with nearly ten years of speech therapy growing up with a lot of getting bullied, the adults were the worst. Sadly I use to be able to speak German with the correct accent and sing country music from the tv show " Hee Haw."
Americans are stuck up with the way English is to be pronounce.
I'm doing a planescape campaign and the party is nifleheim bound since the villains are attempting to free the nidhogg. What good timing for a video!
Somewhere in the multiverse is a world where D&D has unprecedented growth & has celebrated owners that backed content creators like AJ.
Hades sounds more interesting to adventure in than the Abyss, especially how you describe it. Thanks for the lore AJ!
Been looking forward to this. Thanks
