Non-Stop Dashing (Apologies for the Motion Sickness) | Hades #6

Today I thought I’d play Hades given that every time I open my Steam library I am guilted into looking at it with all of its many shiny video game awards and its many shiny reviews, so here it is.

  1. I get so frustrated that he only uses one type of attack each run… I think he doesn't understand that each type of attack has a different use… And he never uses cast which can be quite strong

  2. Stubborn defiance has some niche uses. So for starters, you can use it early on if you expect multiple deaths. Once you know what you're doing, you can use it to put yourself above the health mark, essentially a heal. Involves dropping yourself into death if you have less health than the revive gives. Works very well with gloves (unlocked soon) as it's a far riskier playstyle.
Personally I prefer the regular defiance as I try not to die, but stubborn certainly has some niche uses.

Your were pretty close with the "themed gods" comment too. You get up to 4 "major" gods per run, hermes is a lesser god so can add on to the 4 main. Chaos is technically a lesser god too I suppose.
Loving how quick you keep picking things up, even if you do gimp yourself a bit by not using everything in your arsenal. Wouldnt be Mr streamer otherwise ^^

  3. Pressure points is also one the best abilities in the game. It makes ANY damage dealt to enemies able to crit. Including damage over time, wall bounces, traps, and any bonus effects you get like the Artemis arrows abilities

  4. the skull also mean more if it is a consumable. If it is a key it will be 2 in a skull room. Yeah boons gods are determined by previous boons. Its why their keepsakes are good to guarantee if it fits your weapon.

  5. i guess you can use the brain dead strategy of special only, but that's quite ineffective to specialise in one thing while using shield or bow, while the sword and spear are more forgiving for using : special or attack only.

in the end any strategy goes while you can doge.

  6. Everyone else has already said so, but Cmon Mr. Streamer, you are given a shield capable of blocking nearly EVERY ATTACK in the game, and you just won't use the blocking. I know you've had some drinks, so I hope you can read through these and try the Shield in a run where you can recognize how good it is to block every attack you face while holding that shield up.

  7. Keep an eye out for a purple glow in the weapon room before the next run. One random weapon will have it, and you'll gain 30% more darkness for using it.

Also, yes. One of the talents in the mirror of night causes foes with a bloodstone stuck in them to take additional damage from all sources, so it's worth it to use, even with a basic cast.

Try using all your attacks as well, and take advantage of the trinket system to start selecting the boons you want instead of just grabbing them at random.

Since you like the spear, try starting the next run with Zues' trinket and selecting the boon that causes your attack to shoot chain lightning. Zues is very effective for fast attacks like the spear jab, especially with one of the hammer upgrades.

  8. Don’t mean to be backseaty, but I feel it bears mentioning:each weapon plays a specific way with specific and different intended functions for each move for that weapon.
The sword is meant to get in and stay in until the enemy is dead, using the attack combos to kill single combatants and the special to dead with weaker crowds
The spear is meant to be a melee weapon as well, but with a higher reach than the sword, with the special acting as a secondary option to deal with enemies you don’t wish to melee or that you want to stay at a range of.
The shield is meant to be a primarily defensive weapon, where you wait until the enemy stops attacking and then use the moment of opportunity to wail on them with the dash strikes and shield bash, with the special being meant to attack enemies too far away from you or dealing with a. Few medium enemies.
The bow is, surprise surprise, meant for range and big hits with the charged shots, with the special being the option for crowds or specifically large and healthy opponents like bosses, where when the entire volley lands it lands a lot.

The main thing to remember though with all the weapons is that Hades rewards aggression, as the hit stun properties that affect every enemy that isn’t armoured or a boss allows for quick and bloody melee to quickly take out crowds. Ranged combat is largely meant as a secondary option for niche situations, which is why the ranged option is usually the special attack, not the primary attack.
