While the extended omega special of Persephone is underwhelming that extra damage for every omega move is pretty good.
Gotta try it with a cast build.
Daaaaaamn, this video makes me realise that I reported a false bug ! I did NOT understand that aspect of Persephone makes your omega attack go longer ! I thought it just made it stronger ! And it happens so infrequently that I thought it was a bug ! I felt like I just lost control of the omega attack and just kept running without being able to stop and it was so inconfortable !! They really need to make it clearer that it makes it go longer because I was just super confused by all that… Damn…
There's nothing fun whatsoever in using the torches. Nothing. The one redeeming move is the special, it's a defensive move at that, and one must spam it in order to be effective? Yay? And you still must put yourself in striking range and wait for the flames to rotate about enough times while rising taking damage? Hard pass. The torches are the Dan of the game.
Aspect of moros is incredible, especially for bosses.
Basically, you have to prefire your attacks from range, ghosts block eachother from moving, and since they last so long you can stack up a bunch while still doing damage and then blash them all with your special at once, and you can maximize the damage from your arcana and boons really easily since it all happens at 1 time.
I think Zeus special is required, since you proc it so easy and the damage is so consistant, and then hestia, posioden, apolo, and (sometimes) hephestus and demeter can be really good on your attack.
I do get what you mean about the ghosts going to far, but the funny thing is only the omega attacks ruin your stacks and mines, so you either have to have a build that prefers not to omega attack, or you have to play around individual ghosts from your omega attack with apollo or demerer.
I think Zeus Ring does deserve special mention with Charon, making use of that +3s of dmg. had a silly Cast+Spin build that just did so much dmg. it's safer than with Apollo since you won't have to deal with the Special charge up, and the vulnerable few frames between the blocking and omega coming out
for Medea, I do think it's worth mentioning that it occasionally becomes annoying in some Oceanus maps with some enemies, as shown in your video using it. can't quickly hit any of those yellow snakes in the water at the edges at all except waiting for Attack to explode on its own or using Omega cast explosion, since Special can't hit water at all unless you're able to dash over the water. but this doesn't apply to edge water spaces… the miniboss room must be extremely unfun to play. there's using Omega Special's side hits, too but yea it's still a very awkward situation
Charon gave me my best run yet.
I got the special speed hammer, Apollo cast and special, Hestia cast throw, Hera cast growth and regen.
It was amazing
Aspect of Circe works best if you would not like to rush a magic restoration boon. It also works great with an attack speed build. I think it is worse than the other 2 aspects, though.
Something i think is important for the moros torches is controlling the speed of the attacks you send out.
While holding the attack button, if you hold movement away from the enemy the attack moves slowly and stops moving much closer to mel. If you hold movement in the direction of the enemy it moves really fast and travels farther.
Interestingly, moros is the only torch aspect where the attacks have collision detection with each other, and what happens if two attacks collide is they both IMMEDIATELY freeze in place.
So if you shoot a slow attack and then a fast attack in sequence you can get two attacks to stop in place surprisingly close to mel, and then keep firing at that cluster to get a big bunch to all blow up together.
The timing also works out that if you use normal special, then slow shot fast shot, they freeze in place at basically exactly the line the special circles for a nice little 3 shot combo.
Another quick way to built an attack cluster is to fire a neutral speed attack and dash to follow it while holding the attack button, which makes you fire the second shot directly into the first one and freeze both of them right where you are standing.
The omega attack has different collision with the normal attacks where it basically pushes them out of the way, but iirc have the same freezing in place interaction with other omega attacks.
I had a run with aspect of Mel and got the hammer that treats your omega attack as rockets and the shotgun one and it worked really well for me.
Mel axe with the final hit hammer special and aphro increase att damage and double strike with APO. Omg. And if you get a Crit buff as well. You can do 2k damage is 1 hit
I will say Torches are much harder to use with a Controller than any other weapon. Being able to spam on the move is this weapon's greatest feature, but dashing while channeling Y or Triangle is not the easiest button combination.
Apollo on the Skull attacks is probably the nicest Boon. It makes the Omega so damn big. Apollo just really works well with the Skull. I fell in love with the Hammer that turns your cast into an massive bomb that can hurt you too. It works almost too well with the Apollo Cast (it is big and explodes again after it explodes the first time) and the Apollo Cast enhancement that makes your Cast expand. You just have to be careful in tiny rooms.
You are probably using aspect of Moros wrong, you use your omega special and while they are turning around you every time you hit it with your attack it creates the explosion. It is very consistant on getting the explosions. I like demeter special cause it locks the enemies in place so you dont really need to stagger them.
Also for Aspect of Thanatos charges from Zeus Omega Cast which charges it very fast you get to max stacks very fast and dont have to worry about taking damage
God, I can't believe you put Medea so high. It's the bottom of D for me. There's no way to see how long the skulls have until they're expiring, so if you're forced to reposition, you might drop one while you're charging up. There's no sane way to use it without the dash, it's hard to hit things with the dash, the skulls drop on the first thing you hit, not where you end up, so if a trash enemy steps in front of you, you lose all the charges and then you have to run back to get them. I've never had less fun with anything in Hades.
I think you didn't play Moros Torches the way they work the best : Omega special to make balls orbit > spam Attacks = detonations instantly at melee range. You're not supposed to throw your attacks and find your ghosts to explode them with the special, its obviously really bad ahah.
The more active specials you got the easiest is it to make ghosts explode so hammers like the "your omega special throw another ball" make explosions really easy.
Imho its a really good aspect when things click right like i had a run with Hera on the special to link everyone and Apollo attacks to wreck everyone with big explosions, that was one of the strongest build i had with the torches. The thing as you said is that the specials of the torches don't stagger so its alyways interesting to use some attacks to stagger enemies. This aspect pushes you to do it so i find it more safe than Mel aspects and really not that bad 🙂
I think the aspects are the biggest place they have to improve Hades 2 before launch rn. Some are great (like I think all 3 daggers are in a good spot), but there's a few too many straight up bad or boring ones imo. I'm sure some redesigns, the last weapon, and the secret aspects will help!
you put mel torches higher than moros or eos??? you may want to try using them again
mel's daggers are golden for pure melee or no-magick builds. especially if you get the right hammer or arphodite's boon to up the damage even more, and artemis's arrows or zeus's chain lightning. then you just park behind a boss and watch the healthbar quickly melt away
I just thought the Persephone skull boosted omega special damage and jusy alternated between the attacks and omega special through enemies to pick them up. I assumed it was a bug whenever the omega special seemed to last too long.
Your content is great mate but you've cooked this list. If you consider damage output, ease of beating high fear and how easy it is to put a build together I think you'll change a lot of your choices here
the need to make torch aspects better … eos is fun but feels a bit gimmicky
The way I've found to make good use of Moros is to fire the attack through the omega special whilst it's orbiting you, making it detonate instantly. It makes it so it's relatively short ranged, and you have to dance around enemies a lot, but it's good damage and AoE, and I find it's a fun playstyle
I use Aspect of Persephone for Zeus Cast because it the Omega damage applies to all Omega, and prob the only aspect that can buff Zeus cast damage other than Charon
skull is underrated
Moros is incredible and I think you're underrating it because you're playing it wrong. You should use it like a melee weapon, spamming your omega special, running at enemies, and shooting your attacks directly into the specials as they orbit you so you're constantly surrounded by explosions. It's the most mana-hungry way to play torches so it basically requires Born or Hearth Gain, but that's okay because Hera/Hestia is the best way to play with Moros in my experience; I've chewed through a ton of fear using Hera special, Hestia attack, and Funeral Pyre (their duo).
The biggest problem with Moros that you didn't mention is the projectile collision: it's typical for your projectiles to stack on top of each other without hitting enemies. The playstyle I describe above largely avoids that issue because your attacks explode before they get the chance to stack up, but it still comes up if you don't have enough magick to use your omega special or have a few low-health stragglers and are trying to use your basic attack to finish them off. Once they fix that (and some of torches' underlying problems), I think Moros will absolutely rip.
Aspect of Circe is great for the attack hammers and not taking a magic regen boon or arcana.
Yo no way Moros is D, I get that as a pro you probably value consistent dps, and yeah they’re a bit harder to use on Guardians, but they’re nuts for distanced crowd damage— you attack from way further away than you would in other aspects, line up where the ghosts go, stack them up in front of you, and pop them when you got a bunch or when you need to panick; bonus points for getting to pick when to detonate so you don’t waste all your damage on breaking the last bit of armor and can just one shot foes afterward. The vow that puts +60% enemies is way easier to deal with on Moros for me than any other aspect, without Poseidon, which means I don’t have to make bosses harder for that bit of extra fear
Does anyone else feel like the aspects are a bit undercooked in this game? Hades 1 had all sorts of crazy mechanics on the aspects and this game its mostly just buffs to certain attacks. Lame
I think Pan could use the +3 cast duration or they change the cast duration to be affected by the time slowdown from the arcana card. Not that it needs to be stronger but I think it would help it feel more rewarding. I haven't used it much but I feel like most of the time the extra blades just aren't worth the time investment because I either have to dodge or the cast duration ends
Straight up spamming attack with the Mel Skull is the only aspect besides Poseidon spam staff that I can reliably win with
I’m interested in using the aspects of Charon for cast focus build even if your not exploding your cast. Those extra 3 seconds feel powerful on those damaging cast boons like Zeus or Demeter or a funny scorch build with hestia
My biggest issue with aspect of Persephone is that the icon for charging the glory isn’t flashy enough so that we can see how soon we will get the effect so we can plan for it. I will be fighting for multiple rooms and then randomly I will use the omega special and all of a sudden it’s the empowered one….wasted on a couple of non threatening goons.
Axe 🗿
Finally, I see so many people dismissing the torches especially aspect of Melinoe, but I find it crazy strong with a good setup
I think the torch special should stagger enemies
Eos torches are slept on and I'll swear by that. This weapon does some incredible aoe and single target burst, it's at least A-tier for fear pushing
idk if aspect of Persephone is D tier, the text of the ability isn’t very relevant but similar to Momus it just increases the damage on your best attacking option (omega special on the skull) by a solid chunk
