The strength of the shield is in the Bull Rush and how it makes you nigh invulnerable while repositioning. You’re not supposed to hold it as long as you do because you’re just reducing dps lol. Speaking of the block, you DO know that Athena’s attack gives deflect on the attack and Bull Rush right? Right???? The shield’s attack dps is similar to the sword’s but it does has less range and a shorter combo as you’ve noticed. The invincibility during dashes and the sheer distance of dashes is what makes shield kinda OP. I think having Poseidon on the shield special would give it stagger but idk if that would make a good run yet. I also notice that you rarely use your god call, I think you’d have a much easier time if you used it every time it came up. Hopefully this helps you enjoy the shield more!
Scintillating Feast (and another duo boon you will eventually find down the line) gives me the same sort of satisfaction as Rain of Sorrows + Plague Grenade spam. The zone of sheer carnage is all the damage buff I need. Also Dionysus has a thing that makes foes in Festive Fog take bonus damage.

It doesn't "suck for this fight". You find the shield, one of the less used weapons, more difficult to use as you used others. Then you fight a boss you have not fought before – and voilà, you think shield is bad in general and terrible against Tisiphone. Do not dismiss a weapon so easily. They all have their merits and use cases. Some people will find one better fit for them, naturally, but they all have tricks to them once you figure them out. Yes, even the spear Special you despise so much. Imagine the Backstab damage one can achieve…
I wonder if there was an easy way to hit Theseus from behind… Like something that can go behind his shield and back…
Ah, if only that thing has been given attention and helped grow for situations like these. Alas, it seems to not exist.
Also… Next time you beat the Champions of Elysium, go to the top of the arena and a bit to the left. You might find something curious there.
