TECHNIQUES that make Hades's art STAND OUT!

Hey guys!
Today I’m taking a look at the supergiant game, Hades. In particular, I’m taking a look at its artstyle, how the characters are drawn, and how its art separates it from the other supergiant titles, like Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre.
We will also look at various drawing techniques used and the design philosophies used when designing the characters.

  1. Really late to this video but I'm glad that there's a video exploring Hades' art! I really want to study the art style of this game and this is really useful to me. You're really observant, informative, and this video is well put together and a bit funny too! Subscribed!

  2. I always thought that the character portraits (but also other art assets) have this look of being carved out of brilliant crystals, or something. Like, because they're godly, and beyond this world, the reflections/highlights and little rainbow-y specs often don't really match the materials they depict in a realistic way at all. Like the line art and dark black(ink-like) shadow areas do a good enough job of suggesting material / texture / form on their own. IMO the way the skin on characters are rendered has a exaggeratedly shiny look, almost metallic, as if they all wear some POPPIN' highlighter.
