The Boatman's Wrath – Let's Play Hades – Part 31

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.

  1. Well, the title alone tells me one thing to look forward to this video. Glad you got to experience that before reaching the end of the game!

To briefly respond to what you're saying in the edited in comments, I completely understand getting burned out a bit on Hades. Wanting to keep going and do everything a game like this has to offer is quite the ask, so I feel especially in a Let's Play situation like this, it's best to set specific goals and have those be the point where you say "Okay, I'm done now." Luckily, the game has a couple of those built in to its structure. And the first one should be coming up in just a couple videos.

Yeah, if I see the max heal from fountains boon in Tartarus or Asphodel, it's pretty much a guaranteed grab. Later on, I might pass on it in favor of other stuff unless there's nothing particularly good, since you don't get as much of the built up bonus damage.

You keep on asking if the Athena cast is good… you know you could always try it out and decide for yourself, right? Personally, I'd say it's a nice enough upgrade to the basic cast, it does very decent damage and has a blast radius for AoE damage, and the deflect is situationally useful. It's certainly not as powerful as the specialized damage-dealing casts that Ares and Demeter have, but it's better than nothing. Plus it looks cool.

Here we go, Charon fight! Good luck.

That was VERY nice! Zeus shield really pulled through there, letting you stay at a distance and not have to deal much with the giant swing on his oar attack, that thing comes out very suddenly and can be tricky to dodge consistently, even when you know the fight. Winning that the first time isn't really how it normally goes, so great job pulling it off.

Greater call at the start of phase 2 Theseus is SO satisfying!

And there's another win! Artemis call plus auto-charge god gauge is incredibly strong.

The wardrobe full of capes is such a fun touch.

I've always preferred less/minimal edited videos, but I have no clue what the average viewer would prefer, so hopefully other people can give their own opinions as well.
