  1. Jake, you asked what Sisyphus did to push that boulder.
He cheats death twice. Depending on the version of the story, either Hades or Thanatos arrive to take Sisyphus's life, but he tricks them, and chains them up instead. As a result of this, people can't die, and Ares, upset that he can't have fun anymore killing people because they can't die, chases down Sisyphus and frees Hades/Thanatos.

Before Sisyphus is killed, and sent to the afterlife, however, he asks his wife to leave his dead body naked on the streets as a symbol of her love for him.
When he arrives at Tartarus, he meets Persephone, and convinces her that his wife had left his dead body naked on the streets to humiliate him, and requested to be allowed to travel to the overworld to settle his grievances. This is the second time he cheats death.

Eventually he is captured by Hermes and dragged back to Tartarus. Hades decides to punish him by making him push a boulder up a hill, but the boulder is cursed so that it will always roll back down to the bottom just before he reaches the top. This is supposed to be symbolic; Sisyphus spent his final days chasing the futile task of evading death itself, and was punished to do an equally futile task for the rest of eternity.
