Matthew 10:28 says, "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."
Hell is the place where the lost go to be destroyed/burned up/die the second death. They will not be eternally and consciously suffering. It will end whenever they " have paid the last penny." (Matthew 5:26)
Jesus taught us about Ghenna, not Hell/Hades/Sheol.
Ghenna was a pit in the valley of Hinon outside of Jerusalem where the town trash was being burnt constantly.
First Comment—Love you, Mike! Thanks for your wisdom and teaching!
really appreciate you doing this! Happy friday and God bless

I do not think Lazurus of the parable is the Lazurus of the Gospel of John, but I believe the Parable shows Jesus sense of humor. He have the poor beggar the name of his rich friend.
hell is a waiting room
My study Bible mentions that the rich man in hades is unrepentant given how he treats Lazarus. By asking for the drop of water he treats Lazarus like a servant and maintains his old selfish mentality.
Love u Mike but disagree on it being a parable. This is the only teaching where Jesus mentions real names: Lazarus & Abraham. Is Jesus making fictitious stories about Abraham???? Sort of makes Jesus out to be a liar… The others are obviously parables but this has a very notable difference in naming the father of faith!
yes that is what i mean
The place you go to after you die, is pretty similar to the place you were before you were born.
Everything in the bible is important but not for everyone at every moment. As a new christian understanding the themes taught is enough for your time in study the further along your growth with Christ the more you can dive in to studies like the first part question to better understand what is being taught and the further in to the bible you study the more interconnected you find it is and you get boosts of joy and confidence in your beliefs.
Very helpful discussion. And with everything that I've read I tend to agree with your viewpoint on this. Chuck missler felt it was a true story because of Lazarus having a name. There wasn't a name in any other parable and he felt that disqualified it as a parable. I was very ambivalent with that idea. And examining this as the last parable in a series of peppers especially coming after the money issue came forward, that sounds like a story Jesus would tell and I believe he chose the name to get their attention
