It’s time for me to talk about what is quite possibly my game of the year from 2020 to start off 2021. Hades does so much right it’s insane in an amazing way.
Artemis has some of my favorite boons, she's my goddess. I finally beat Hades recently with my preferred weapon, the shield, and I was pleasantly surprised to realize the game's story was literally only just starting. I'm so glad people are talking about this game, it deserves all the praise. Cheers mate
If you ever have the time, frankly all of Supergiant Games' stuff is worth checking out (even if playing Hades first might give you unreasonable expectations when it comes to the sheer amount of content).
Bastion has far less polished combat than Hades but everything else still holds up, it still has probably the most concise and arguably effective story and message out of their games.
Transistor's combat takes a bit of getting used to, but when it clicks it's really good. The aesthetics (music/visuals) are in my personal opinion some of the best in any video game, the game is stunningly beautiful.
Pyre is definitely the odd one out for many, but it's my personal favorite. The genre mix of "one part wordy cyoa-esque visual novel, one part 3-on-3 fantasy basketball" is downright bizarre, but if you can get into it the gameplay is surprisingly deep and very engaging. The story/narrative has the most focus out of all their games, and the game has some of my favorite writing in video games (although there is so much flavour text and lore that if you don't actively enjoy reading you might find it boring).
In short, I am biased, but for me personally Hades was the safest bet of 2020. Supergiant Games have yet to miss.
