Did Hades Really CHOOSE the Underworld?

In Greek mythology, Hades’ dominion over the Underworld wasn’t a choice, but rather the outcome of a divine lottery. After the Olympians’ victory in the Titanomachy, the vast realms of the universe awaited division among the three brothers: Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. Rather than choose their dominions, they cast lots to determine their respective realms. Zeus, drawing the sky, became the king of the gods and ruler of the heavens. Poseidon, with his lot, gained mastery over the seas and waters. Hades, however, drew the lot for the Underworld, making him the lord of the dead. While this realm might seem daunting, Hades was neither evil nor malevolent; he was a neutral deity ensuring balance in the afterlife, meting out rewards or punishments to souls based on their mortal deeds.
