  1. Leader of the Titans; Cronus, Cronos, or Kronos was punished, as you said, by Zeus these punishments included counting time, Zeus literally made him record and measure eternity knowing he would live for ever. Hence chronological, chronograph and synchronous. They are not two different entities.
The myth is also one of the origins for "Old Father Time" he was 'father' to the gods and responsible given responsibility of 'time' by Zeus.

  2. You are correct that they are two completely different gods dont listen to these other people lol. Different names with coincidentally similar sounds.

Chronos is the primordial/protogenoi god, and personification of the concept of time itself.

Cronus was the leader of the titans, and the god of agriculture, and harvest. Due to the similar names they were often conflated in later times due to confusion. This lead to Cronus also becoming the god of the destructive aspect if time such as degradation after many years.

The wife of Cronus is Rhea, and she also became a time goddess due to this. She was the goddess of motherhood, fertility, generations, and the ever flowing aspect if time that will never stop as it gives rise to new growth, life, and generations.

In short Chronos is time itself, Cronus is destructive time, and Rhea is the flow of time.
