Hades 2 is a 10/10 already lmao
Its so good I’ve immediately canceled my previous plans for Tuesday and am going to stream it all day. Losing and restarting, each build feels INSANELY different.

D3 monk?
You forgot Bastion, it was their first game.
Totally agree, it's basically prefect and still in early access for at least the rest of the year, incredible
missing Harold Halibut, can't complain tho Supergiant is fuckin shredded
Supergiant Games have been such a constantly incredible studio!
Normally he doesn't play early access? What about Manor Lords and No Rest For the Wicked, just to name two really recent ones.
19:30 Kronus(Cronus/Cronos) is the progenitor Titan that fathered gods. Chronos is the god of time. Because of their spelling they are often conflated. Its that dang silent H, it gets you every time.
Brood more, it's almost like you fought a Brood War
Sean it looks like its time to join the team. I shaved my head all the way last month and it rocks. Get on the train man!
The overwatch thing makes sense but Reinhardt’s charge is a totally different ballgame especially in the mirror match where using it very much means you are susceptible to charge and nowadays with shields blowing up quite quickly, that’s also a resource management mechanic. Firestrike now has bankable charges but can often be a “use as often as possible” efficiency game until you have your ult charge. Still winging them out needlessly vs having them available to finish a fleeing opponent, maximizing it to gain an ult advantage or have it as a tool to harass a flanker, tax their resources and attention possibly doing critical damage.
I think the templar vs disruptor from sc2 is much more indicative of the core issue where disruptors nearly always generate value proportionate to their time spent on cooldown
Wow yet another Hades ripoff, dayum
Anyone else just skip past the npc dialogue aka day9tv its infuriating watching a dude talk more than actually play a game… like why the fuck would i wanna hear about a tv show he watched… play the game and zip your mouth simple!!
I took Day9s advice and quit my job.
Everybody comments on those abs lol
I feel like mana is not really a step back but a step sideways. The pace of the game is a bit slower, so you lose some pace but in exchange you gain some more systems to manage / more complex decision making.
From my experience with hades 2, it's more about learning to create a playstyle that incorporates your different attacks rather than stacking it all on one insane synergy or duo boon like in hades 1. The pace of the game is slower for sure but I think the challenge comes in different ways. Haven't beaten the game yet but I feel so far that hades 2 is a little bit easier than 1 since you have better zoning tools like the cast
I missed the notification on this one. Why? Because of Hades 2. I have been engulfed in the world of Hades yet again. All sense of time is out the window. I have been adoring this game. So much. This is how you do an early access.
I LOVE gremlin mode Day9. it makes me super excited for this thing
Supergiant Games is what Blizzard was in the 90s and early 2000s. Just gem after gem and can do no wrong. I hope they don't fall for the same traps that Blizzard did.
Hades is one of those games that I adore watching people play and hate playing myself. Carpal tunnel sucks kids, take care of your body when you're young.
Best part of it all? More music tracks.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I had to pick this up. Hades is literally my favorite game of all time.
Day9 stumbled headfirst into dinosaur controversy X number of years ago. I've watched him for years, I know he's just fucking around, and I still want to drop a breathless defense of paleontology in the comments. Damn intelligent designers still got me on a hair trigger after all these years.
I love when Day9 talks about a new game with such excitement! Gonna get home tonight afterwork and buy myself Hades 2! And probably get back into getting the complete ending in Hades 1!
@ day9
first, thanks for exposing this game to my eyes 🙂
second,
How do feel about commiting to a challenge not because your interested in it,
not becuase your move options in general are minimized to push you into that task,
but, BECAUSE you are denied a tool/experience/upgrade that you want until you resolve the task:
Like, first you get to "play limited",
then you are invited to "play with much more fun",
then that invitation resends because "the system can only supply fun if running well",
so: "find the problem , find x , bring it to y, and the system run again, and fun play is open again for you and more"
, so you can get satisfaction from opening fun mode to new users and so on.
We don't need a one-shot-story, but a system – a repeating story with divergences that require player solving skills or fighting skills
and a fun-mechanic and a much-more-fun-mechnics (with a limited exposure).
Imagine entering a game, and immidiately see other players achievements news reports (with replays) that reward all new players.
Glad to hear it's been done well.
“You can’t prove the dinosaurs DIDN’T have raves” is such a delightfully silly sentiment and I am absolutely going to use that 😂
The Pickaxe rant was amazing 01:10:25
I have decided to quit my job and just play Hades 2 instead. Thanks Day9!
Tony Baloney been real quiet since this dropped
dota 2 a lot recently and by a lot I mean ' 4 games and I was the reason we lost' he really speaks for me.
Listening at 13:22 while working and using neovim as my coding editor just hurt me 🙁
Ohh ya bastion. Was a short game 10+ years ago that i remember having the sad it's over feeling.
I really kinda like that in the first ten minutes, the game gives you a bunch of abilities and doesn't tell you how they work, you just get to play around and discover for yourself. It encourages a sort of experimental playstyle where there isn't a fixed way to solve problems, and adds this rewarding "I did it my way." feeling when you do accomplish something.
what the hell was with that autopilot decision to choose the 3rd save slot. why
Loved that cutscene at the end with little Melinoe and Hecate just playing around. So sweet!
I thought Chronos was different from Kronus, but I know it's different from Kronussy.
Sean's recording the pc-game-WHAT!?
is apollo the english voice of alphenaud from ffxiv?
damn the youtube compression murders this game
Chronos and Kronos used to be Time incarnate and the Titan dad of Zeus, but just as you have confused them, so has literally everyone, including ancient Greeks. Kronos was associated with Harvest and the cyclical nature of that, which is also time-like. Hades II has made the two entities the same it seems in this game.
I completely agree with all of your most important points, Day9. VIM is garbage.
You sir have a weird, interesting brain. You get happy with simple things and get stuck on things I'd just glaze through without a thought, while I would think much more on stuff you don't seem to care. I know, it's called being different human beings, but I remark how opposite I am to you.
Day9: Ok, so normally I don't play access games
Me: right!?
Day9: But I have to play Hades 2 right now.
Me: RIGHT!?
I took the very same principle and ended up passing up the early access build of the first one as a result. When that turned out to be the first exemplary way to conduct early access I'd ever seen, I decided to relax that rule and allow myself to get in on early access for the small handful of developers I trust. I don't regret my previous choice, I was a little sceptical at first, it also released as an epic exclusive for early access so that wasn't great, but given the choice today I'd have done it as Supergiant have more than earned their place as one of the most trustworthy developers in the industry.
White collar is one of my favorite series of all times. I love that you found a parallel between hades 2 and it.
