Hades is excellent. Seriously very excellent. A level of excellent that has quickly seen it become one of my favorite games ever.

Top notch combat, a terrific blend of RPG and roguelike qualities, amazing writing, graphics, and music. Hades’ mythological tale of family conflict is just fantastic.

Easily Supergiant’s best work, to the point where I really don’t have a bad thing to say about it. And that’s that!

  1. This is the most enthusiastic review I've heard in a long, long time. And I absolutely get why. This game makes you feel like a kid discovering videogames again. Those times you couldn't stop playing because they were so, so fun. 5 stars game, 5 stars and heartfelt review.

  2. I was really on the fence about this game but hearing Jim Sterling's praise for it has very quickly persuaded me to take the plunge into HELL and buy this game. Was able to get it for just $10 on sale on Epic Games Store. Not typically a fan of their store and launcher but for the price to get the game 'Hades' I'm super excited. Sincerely thank you Jim Sterling for your content and honest criticisms of the games industry. Hearing you praise a game still sounds so foreign to me ^.^ but if you love Hades that much then it must be a great game. It's downloading now and I hope to play it into Halloween for some spooky hell vibes.

  3. Cool review, nothing to add, but one thing to change: The game is a rogue-lite by the Copenhagen definition. It is inspired by the features, but not compliant which would make it a "roguelike". Pretty good and clear defined terms.

  4. I’ve always been iffed by rougelike games, and especially random generation. I’ve tried enter the gungeon and OG Binding of Isaac and I didn’t enjoy them. The only game that it has really worked for me is Minecraft, if you count that. The idea of dying and restarting over and over scares me, especially because each level is randomly generated. What if the rng keeps making bad levels that always work against you? I do want to try Hades though. Super Giant games have always eluded me so hopefully this will be the game that wins me over.

  5. I never watch game reviews, but I've been playing non stop for days and it's so amazing that if I can't be playing right now (because I have to eat on order to keep living and thus play more) then I'm gonna listen to somebody talk about how amazing this game is, I just love gushing about things I love and to hear others gush about them too

  6. The character designs ALONE in this game are NEXT-FUCKING-LEVEL.

    Even 'Dusa! A floating head!

To say nothing about the stellar writing and in-universe, diagetic storytelling and HOLY SHIT, it also happens to play incredibly well!

  7. I actually thought you were being sarcastic when talking about Athena’s boons (I’m autistic and have a hard time picking up on sarcasm), but after playing the game several times, I now know that you were being completely sincere.

  8. I started this video and just had to stop it immediately. Jim loves it, and said it was like Children of Morta in progression style. Enough said, gotta play it and then I'll finish the video after. Hah!

  9. While this isn’t quite my game of the year (sorry but LOU2 effected more than anything game I’ve ever played) however I will say that objectively, hades is one of the few “perfect” games out there. This game does everything I can think of greatly, and that’s a achievement not my GOTY but a close second.
