In this demo of Hades, I ripped out the game’s audio and replaced 100% of it.
For the sound design I really spent my time with each sound or sequence of sounds such as the sword sequences, which were very prominent. The trick here was lots and lots of layering a diverse sounds until I felt like the mix was perfect. I was able to use a mix of my own recordings, Foley, libraries, and lots of sound manipulation. There are manipulated sounds in there from objects you don’t actually see in the visuals such as cars, guns, buses, tools, fireworks, and lots of analog synthesis.
To not rely on voiceover actors for the demo, I recorded the voices myself including for the enemies, which were heavily manipulated recordings.
