Hades x Hadestown – EPIC IV (persephone & hades love theme)

Heavy and hard is the heart of a king…🔥🥀

Epic IV attempts to reimagine Orpheus in the world of Hades the game, singing about Hades and Persephone and their downfall – a relationship that, like many, started out with sunshine and romance, but of course, quickly turned dark…

I put together this version of Epic from Anais Mitchell’s Hadestown after hearing the amazing soundtrack to Hades by Darren Korb (and swooning over the red and green colour scheme, unique art, and incredibly detailed and well researched lore in the game, omg?!). I was struck by the similarities between the two soundtracks, with the folk / ethnic instrumentation + vocal style, cool harmonies and melancholy feel – and of course, the subject matter and characters were so aligned!

*Note that while there are several versions of Epic, this version is closest to Epic Pt 2 from the 2010 concept album, as that is the version of which I am most fond (read: listened to while atmospherically shivering on more than one dark Halloween) 💕

  1. I'm five hours into the game Hades (playing a little each time) and only now have I been able to get past Tartarus! (And die a second after that).
The soundtrack is with me right after I bought the game. [Excellent execution of the atmosphere]

… and so, the wonder-struck starling made a crossover cover that hopefully did not debase the source material.
